Wedding Dance 2

“Hello Eman, ano kasi—“ she was scratching her cheek with her index finger while she was thinking if Eman should know that she was with Richard.

She glanced at Richard, her gaze met his and he mouthed ‘why’, and then Maya just shook her head.

“Ay, Eman ano nga kasi….Uhm, kasama ko si Sir Chief kaya baka medyo malate ako ng uwi” she finally said then she chuckled with her friend’s response.

“Ikaw talaga Eman, hindi naman noh”, she then hung up and her phone was on her lips as her gaze was locked on the road, she didn’t noticed that Richard was looking at her every now and then.

Every time she tries to look at Richard he then right away returns his eyes on the road with his lopsided smile which makes Maya giggle hideously.

“Sir Chief saan nga pop ala tayo pupunta?” she finally asked to break the silence that filled the car.

“Hindi ka parin talaga nagbabago Maya” he answered with his eyes on the road with his eyebrows raised.

“Alam nyo Sir Chief” she was cut with her protest when Richard raised his index finger, it seems like he was asking her to stop talking. Well Maya was used to this kind of situation, but she was still shocked, wondering if she said something wrong, and then Richard spoke.

“Remember you don’t work for me anymore?” he paused waiting if she would protest, but he received nothing then he continued.

“Even just for this day don’t call me Sir Chief, it’s just me your Mahal na Hari” she glanced at her with his ‘deadly smile’

Maya didn’t know what to feel, embarrassed, teased or……

“Sir Chief naman e, natatandaan nyo papala yun, sabi ko naman po sainyo doon lang naman sa story ko kay Abby e”, she answered with her tone that she was really teased.

“I mean it Maya” he glanced at his watch and it’s already past six.

“Tonight, you’ll be the Mahal na Prinsesa, not just in the story but for real” he added and then he whispered.

“Baka araw-araw pa nga e” and then he smiled as he shifted the wheels to the next corner.

“Ano po Sir— ay e ano nga po palang itatawag ko sainyo?” she asked with her pouty lips and wondering eyes.

“Richard, just Richard, and please wag kang magpa-po sa akin baka naman isipin nila sobrang tanda ng kadate mo” he jokingly said as he unbuckle his seatbelt.

“Ikaw talaga Sir Chief ang corny mo parin magjoke” she said as she gently tapped Richard’s shoulder.

“Well maybe dun sa part na baka isipin nilang sobrang tanda ko, pero dun sa sinabi kong date I serious” he went out of the car giving her no chance to protest.

Maya was still in the state of unconsciousness because of what was happening, she didn’t notice that Richard already opened the door beside her.

“Let’s go?”

“Ah—Op—“ then she went out of the car as Richard was holding her hand.

Butterflies were rumbling inside her belly and high voltage of electricity was passing through her veins, that made her feeling giddy and she almost lost her balance, but her ‘knight in shining armor’ was right there to catch her.

“Ay sorry po—ay anu bay an, hindi naman kasi ako sanay na hindi magpa-po sayo at wag kang tawaging Sir Chief”, she wiped the rice grained sweat that formed beside her forehead.

“Relax Maya, it’s just me, not your boss. Ako lang to, imagine na kinukwentuhan mo lang si Abby before she sleep, yun nga lang true-to-life na”, he smiled with sincerity and he closed the door behind Maya.

They were heading towards the building when he placed his hand on her waist. Just like before when Luke and her was practicing for the prom, when he held her waist, she moved slightly as if to avoid or to lessen the tickling effect of his touch.

“Richard anong gagawin natin dito?” she asked, and she was still not used to calling him by his first name.

“It’s for the wedding”, he whispered with that smile that makes all the girls giggle. He can smell her scent, the scent that he badly longed for.

‘ For the wedding? E hindi pa nga nanliligaw’ Maya said to herself. Maya stopped and moved a little farther to him.

“What’s wrong?” his tone was filled with concern as he held her shoulder.

“Wedding agad-agad?” she asked with her questioning tone.

“Yes wedding, Liza told me that she invited you for her wedding”

“Yun talaga yon?” she asked with her tone with the bit of embarrassment.

“Of course yun yon. What are you thinking?” he asked with his wistful smile.

“I thought you might not be able to look for your dress kasi you’ve been busy in the airlines, that’s why I decided na sabay na kita, magpapasukat din ako ng suit ko” he lifted his shoulders then scratch his neck with his index finger.

Maya breathe a sigh of relief with Richard’s explanation, but the ‘argument’ doesn’t stops there.

“Paano ka naman nakakasiguradong pupunta ako?” she asked with her teasing tone.

“Of course I do, I know you and Liza are like sisters, you can’t just miss that special day of hers” he answered with the look like ‘am I right?’

She grabbed Richard’s hand as she tried to walk back to the car, but Richard was stronger, she wasn’t able to pull him.

“What’s the matter?” Richard asked with his narrowing eyes behind his eyeglasses.

“Wala pa aakong sahod saka meron pa naman akong dress pwede naman siguro yun” she insisted, still holding Richard’s hand tightly.

“I didn’t ask you to pay for it” he muttered.

“Alam ko kaya nga ayaw ko kasi palagi nalang libre, nung una ung sa prom ni ma’am Nikki, tapos eto naman para sa kasal ni Miss Liza” her voice was an octave higher.

She tried and gave her remaining strength to pulled Richard towards the car, but Richard was very attentive, when he felt that she was going to pull him again, he pulled her instead, he caught her with his arms, their lips were millimeters away, she can smell his minty scent it’s as if he was fresh from brushing his teeth or having a mouthwash before he went to the airlines. Her chest was pressed to his well muscled chest, his arms wrapped around her, beside the electricity and butterflies that disturbed her whole being, his touch makes her feel safe, it seems like there’s no safer place than to be with him.

“You know you wouldn’t win” he said as they both when back to their feet.

“Besides kung hindi ka pupunta paano ako? I mean I don’t have a date, ok lang ba syo na ma-out of place ako doon? Most of my employees in the Aviation are married and others are committed” he said with his pleading eyes.

“E anon naman kinalaman ko doon?” she pouted her lips as she spoke.

Richard knelt into the ground, it’s as if he was proposing to her, but it’s not, it’s too early for that and besides he wasn’t able to buy a ring.

“Maya Dela Rosa, will you be my date on Saturday?” he held her hands, his voice was so intoxicating.

“Ano ka ba Richard, tumayo ka nga dyan nakakahiya o pinagtitinginan ka ng ibang tao” she said as she tried to pull him.

“I don’t care, at hindi ako tatayo dito hanggat hindi ka pumapayag”, he kissed her hand. Another reason to make Maya dizzy, she was frozen unable to speak.

He was just asking to be his date on Liza’s wedding, what more if……

“Oo na sige na, tumayo ka na dyan para makapagpasukatt na tayo at makauwi dahil nagugutom na ako” she answered with the twinkle in her eyes.

“We’ll grab our dinner after natin magsukat” he said as he rose from the ground.

“Sige ako nalang ang manlilibre sayo, pero wag sa mahal ha?” she said with her child-like smile.

“Ok, you’re the boss tonight” he said then he motioned towards the building where they’ll be having their dress and suit tailored.

After almost an hour of fitting and measurements, the two were starving. They went inside the car and Richard started the engine.

“Ok where are we going, I’m starving, baka mapalaki ang gastos mo kung tatagal pa tayo” he said with his teasing tone.

Richard drove while Maya was instructing him where to turn. They reached a not so crowded park, just enough with kids playing ‘tag-your hit-, lovers in the benches and families on the ground having their picture taken. The lights were enough to make the park looks lively.

“Maya?” Richard’s tone was confused. He was wondering why she brought him there, they’re both starving and all he could see was stalls no tables and chairs.

“Di ba sabi mo ako ang boss?” Maya looked up to him then he just rolled his eyes and a make face.

“Mageenjoy ka dito promise” she assured him.

“Just make sure na mabubusog ako or else….” He wasn’t able to finish his condition when Maya walked towards the stall who sells fish-balls and other ‘pick-a’ snacks.

“Ilan po sainyo ma’am?” the vendor politely asked.

“Dalawang tig-apat na kwek-kwek po kuya saka dalawang tig-limang pisong fish-ball, pakihiwalay nalang po yung sauce ha? Saka dalawang gulaman” after enumerating her order, she pulled out her wallet and paid for her orders.

Richard was waiting in the bench right next to the stall where Maya bought their food.

“Tikman mo tong kwek-kwek paborito namin yan ni Kute” her voice was like an entrepreneur doing the sales talk about her products.

Richard stared at the orange cover. Maya already ate two but Richard hadn’t eaten one.

“Ano ka ba malinis yan!” she set aside her food. Then she grabbed the barbeque stick from Richard’s hand. She dipped the orange-covered quail egg into the brown colored sauce with the bits of onion and mixed with vinegar. She placed the cup beneath his mouth and the egg millimeters away from his mouth.

“Sige na tikman mo, promise masarap to”.

Richard opened his mouth and Maya slid the egg inside his mouth then she slowly pulled the stick. Richard carefully chewed the eggs and in his face she could see satisfaction.

“Oh dib a sabi ko sayo masarap yan e”

“Sinabi ko bang masarap?”

“Bakit hindi ba?” Maya pretended like she was offended to his answer.

“Of course it is, eto na yata and pinakamasarap na quail egg sa buong mundo”

“Hay—nako Richard, hindi mo naman kailangang mambola e, ang hirap sayo, simpleng oo o hindi lang ang dami mo pang sinasabi”, she grabbed her cup and finished her food.

She gulped her ‘gulaman’, she wasn’t aware of the ‘mustache’ that was formed after she drank her ‘gulaman’. Richard noticed it, he pulled his hankie from his pocket and he gently wiped her lips, his skin brushing to some of hers as he wiped her lips, and the butterflies on her belly were rumbling again even if she was a bit full. Richard wasn’t looking in her lips, he was just staring at her eyes.

“Ouch!” Richard exclaimed when Maya slapped his forehead.
“Meron kasing lamok, baka madengue ka” she chuckled as he slid his hankie back to his pocket and he finished his food and drink.

After eating they roamed around the park, at first their hands were just brushing and then……

“Oh tapos anong nangyari? Dali kwento ka naman wag ka ngang K.J dyan” Eman interrogated as he took a sip on his juice.

“Anong anong nangyari? Wala yun lang” Maya tried to sound convincing, but Eman wasn’t convinced even just for a bit.

“Hoy, Maya Dela Rosa, wag mo nga akong dinadaan-daan sa padivert-divert ever mo dyan!”

“Eman”, she covered her face with her hands maybe because she was shy to tell him about  what happened. The ‘kneeling’ thingy.

“OMG, Maya don’t tell me nagtapat na ang Sir Chief mo”, he said as he covers his mouth with his hand.

“Ano ka ba Eman, hindi noh, inaya niya ako sa wedding ni miss Liza sa Saturday, wala naman akong balak pumunta kasi wala akong isusuot, kaya ayun pinasukatan nya na ako ng isusuot ko, tapos sabi nya paghindi daw ako pupunta baka maOP lang daw sya doon” her back hunched, lips pouted, shoulders dropped.

“Hala girl this is it” he said as he shook Maya as if he was waking her up from a nightmare.

Maya’s phone rang. It was a message from ‘Sir Chief *-*’, she was having second thoughts if she will open it while Eman was still there, but before she was able to decide he snatched her phone, he stood and walked farther than Maya, he opened the message right away and read it aloud.

“See you on Saturday, sweet dreams”
