~*~ dela Rosa Residence

Maya was thrilled to be back in maynila, it’s been a month since they moved back from the states. They were still busy getting settled back in their old house. Maya looked around her old room as she reminisced about the olden days. She sat down on the floor (idian style) and pulled out a box from under her bed. The box contanted old pictures for her friends, family and most of all her best friend… Richard Lim. (Napa ngiti s’ya) “Kung noon mga bata pa lang tayo… ay gwapo na sya… ngayon mas gwapo sya” she thought (while holding on to her favorite picture) The picture of her and Richard sitting by the lake… she was only 15 when that was taken and he was 23 and already she had the biggest crush on him. “Those were the good old days” she whispered. (smiling again) She was lost in thought when Richard knocked “Maya… nandyan ka ba?” He asked.. *knock knock* “Maya… hello..” (startled by the 2nd set of knocks) “Ay Bes, pasok ka…” she said. Richard enters her room and sits on the bed “Ano ba ang ginagawa mo?” he asked looking down at Maya who was seated on the floor. “Ano ang mga yan” (pointing at the box) Richard noticed the picture in her hand and grabs it “Wow, hanggang ngayon nasayo pa pala ito” he said as he stared at their picture. “Kung alam ko lang… patay na patay ka saakin, kaya nasayo pa nga mga yan” he said teasing her (Maya looking at him… )”Yan ka na naman Mr Makulit… Ang kapal!! Get over yourself noh! Hindi ata kita type”  she said in a low tone. (blushing.. trying to hide her face) “Sus… kungwari ka pa.. tignan mo nga kung maka akbay ka!” (teasing) he said as he looked at the picture again. “Wow Bes, ang laki nang pinag bago mo dito ah” he said. “Kaw talaga… kahit kailan.. ako na naman ang nakita mo” Making a face at him. “At lease ako nag bago” she added “Eh ikaw… forever ka nang masungit” she teased back. (grabbing the picture from his hand) “Ahhh ganon..” he said again “Baka gusto mo kilitiin ulit kita dyan” (getting ready to attack) “Chief ah… walang ganyan! Nananahimik ako dito..” (smiling as she jestured a peace sign) “Daya mo… Sige, pagbibigyan kita ngayon” he said (ngiti) Richard laid down on her bed with both arms folded under his head. “So kailan mo balak mag hanap nang opis para sa clinic mo?” he ask as he stared at the ceiling. “Eh, yong nga ang tatanong ko sayo eh” she answered as she looked up at him “Kung pwede mo sana akung samahan or tulongan? Alam ko busy ka, pero i figured mas marami kang alam na lugar dito” she said (looking at him with pleading eyes) “Oh eh, sige.. pero tingan ko muna ang schedule ko” he answered turning his head to look at her “Ah ganon.. (pouting) oo nga pala, nakalimutan ko.. big time ka nga pala” she teased (Richard grabed the throw pillow from her bed and threw it a Maya) “Arte mo talaga..” he said as he smiled “Sus…. sino kaya ang mas maarte saatin dalawa” she replied “ikaw etong.. tignan ko ang schedule ko” laughing as she makes a silly face. “Ay naku Maya, kailangan serious tayo when it comes to work, alam mo naman hindi ko basta basta pwedeng iwan ang trabaho ko! I’m a very busy man!” he said (sungit face) “Hoy Chief!! Wag ka nga drama queen dyan! At diba sabi ko bawas bawasan mo yan pagiging masungit mo! Nakakatakot ah.. baka na kakahawa yan” she said (Teasing him… As she throws the pillow back at him and hits him on the head) Richard gets up and takes his phone out of his pocket (dialing) “Oh… ano.. bakit? Suko ka na ba agad? Aalis ka na ba?” She said (tampo look on her face) “Shhh” he said, as he put the phone to his ear. “Liza, paki cancel naman ang mga meetings ko for this week. Yes, paki sabi na rin kila Joma at Sonny na sila na muna ang mag take over sa mga kailangan asikasuhin dyan. Sasamahan ko kasi si Maya mag hanap nang office para sa clinic nya” he said. “Ok, Thank you Liza” he replied before putting his phone away. “Oh.. yan ok na! Para wag mo naman sabihin na pinababayaan kita” he said to her before laying back down on her bed. (Natulala na lang si Maya) “Naks naman..” she thought “Ang sweet naman nang crush ko” she told herself before speaking up “Salamat Bes ah. I owe you one” she said (smiling again).

 

The next few days Richard and Maya went around town looking for a perfect place for her to open her Clinic. They searched and searched, but was still unable to find a suitable place. One was too smail, the other too big. One didn’t have enough room for supplies, while the others didn’t have the proper stuff to turn into a clinic. While in the car Maya asked “Chard, ano kaya kung… mag apply na lang muna ako sa ospital? Baka kasi matagalan bago ako makahanap nang lugar eh” looking at the view outside as she spoke “Maya, ano ka ba? Ang bilis mo naman mag give up. Ilang araw palang tayo nag hahanap. Besides… hindi yang ang Maya dela Rosa na kilala ko! Anong nangyari sa kaibigan kung fighter at ang Kapit Bisig mo! Diba nga… ikaw ang madalas mag sabi saamin… dapat palaging good vibes at always be positive. Eh nag aral ka lang sa amerika naging soft ka na” he said as he focused on the road. “Basta konteng tiis lang… makakahanap rin tayo nang place na magugustohan mo” (smiling) “Salamat ah” she said turning to look at him.

 

Days passed… then weeks… Maya was starting to lose hope. She didn’t want to give up, but she was starting to feel na parang hindi talaga option ang mga karoon sya nang sarili nya clinic at this time. “Siguro nga dapat mag apply na lang muna ako sa mga ospital. Tutal pareho din yon.. “all i want to do is help” she told herself. She makes her way downstairs. After convincing herself of her career path. She see’s her nanay in the living room.

 

Maya: Hi Nay.. kamusta na po kayo? (As she hugs her and sits down next to her) Si Tatay po?

 

NT: Hi nak, ok lang ako. Ang Tatay mo nagpapahinga sa kwarto… Nga pala kamusta naman ang pag hahanap nyo ni Richard nang building para sa clinic?

 

Maya: (Malungkot) Nay.. kasi… ilang araw na kami nag hahanap nang place pero wala parin. Ano kaya kung mag apply na lang muna ako sa mga ospital dyan? Siguro pag established na lang po ako duto tsaka ako mag bubukas nang sarili kong clinic. (frowning)

 

NT: Nak, kala ko ba pangarap mong magkaroon nang sarili mong clinic. Eh bakit parang sumusuko ka na agad?

 

Maya: Nay naman, para kang si Chard! Hindi naman po ako sumusuko.. naisip ko lang.. since wala pa akung sarili.. eh why not try elsewhere. At least kahit paano makakatulong pa rin ako sa mga bata. (smiling) Yong lang naman ang mahalaga saakin eh. Pangarap kong makatulong sa mga bata.. hindi makahanap nang bonggang bongang building (she teased and they both laughed).

 

NT: Maya.. kahit ano naman ang gawin mo ok lang saamin nang Tatay mo. Kung yan ang mag papasaya sayo eh di doon rin kami nang tatay mo. Gusto ko lang siguradohin mo na magiging masaya ka sa decision mo. (hugging her)

 

Maya: Salamat Nanay

 

That evening Richard called Maya. “Bes, maaga tayo bukas” he said over the receiver “May na hanap na akong place na I’m sure you will love” he said “Wow.. talaga Chard! Maya said (shocked) “Oo, basta matulog ka na at sunduin kita dyan mga 7:30am sharp” he replied. “Sige Bes, salamat ah” she said “Good Night Chard, see you tomorrow”. before she hang up the phone.

 

Early the next day, Richard was at her house by 7:15am. “Nak, nandito na si Richard” Nanay Teresita said “Jiho, upo ka muna. Kumain ka na ba? she asked “Salamat po Nang, tapos na po” as he sat by the dining area. A few minutes later Maya came down. “Ang tagal mo” Richard said “Ano ka, sabi mo 7:30 sharp. (Maya looking at her watch) 7:25am pa lang noh” (teasing him) “Ano ready ka na?” He asked, she nodded. “Nay.. alis na po kami” she said to NT “Sige mga anak mag iigat kayo! (looking at him) Richard ang anak ko ah” she said smiling at him “Nang ako po ang bahala” as they walked out the door.

 

Richard drove to a nice area close to his office building. There were a few other vacant buildings. He stopped at one building with a hugh lot. He parked his car and got out. He went around and opened the door for her. Maya got out of the car and just stared at the buidling. It was just the right size she thought. “Ahem… ” Richard cleared his throat “Gusto mo bang makita ang loob or tutunganga ka na lang dito sa parking lot” he said teasing her “Ayy sorry… ang ganda naman nito” she finally said (still staring at the building) “Teka, baka naman hindi ko makayanan ang payments nito” she said (looking back at him) “Ano ka ba Maya, hindi mo pa nga na kikita ang loob eh” he replied “Oo nga… sabi ko nga.. pumasok na tayo para makita ko na….” she said smiling (super excited). He unlocked the doors and they went inside. (Tulala pa rin si Maya.. as she saw the inside of the building) “Kung yong labas speechless na sya…. paano pa kaya yong loob? he whispered. “Wow ang ganda naman nito Chard. Paano mo na hanap ito at sino ang kailangan natin kausapin para ma rent out ang space” (still busy looking around… touching the furnitures at tables) “In fairness.. hindi lang sya maganda…. may kasama pang mga gamit” she said out loud. She turned to look at him. “Chard… sino kakausapin natin para ma upa itong place?” she asked again. “Ano ka ba Maya, ang kulit mo. Wala ka nang kailangan kausapin. Kung gusto mo yong place… it’s yours” he said smiling “Hah.. anong it’s mine ka dyan” she playfully pushed him. “Kanino batong building na eto?” looking straight at him (waiting for a answer) “It belongs to LIM AVAITION, so technically i own it. (Gulat na lang si Maya) Pinatayo ko eto a few years ago, to have another branch, this was going to be another office pero hindi ko na napabuksan. So since hindi naman sya occupied at kailangan mo rin naman nang place.. i will repeat… it’s all yours” he said again (ngiti) nagulat ulit si Maya sa sinabi ni Richard. She was so overjoyed with the news that she hugged him tightly and kissed him on the cheek. (Nagulat naman si Richard, sa halik ni Maya) “Thank you Chard” she whispered before letting go. (Gulat pa rin si Richard) “You’re the best talaga!!” she said smiling as she continued to look around. Richard (stunned) just stared at her in silence “Ano ka ba? Si Maya lang yan, best friend mo! Hindi yang talo” he said to himself. He was so caught up with his thoughts he didn’t hear Maya talking to him “Bes… ok ka lang?” Maya asked “Chard…” she said again.. (finally walking over to him) Hoy Chief! Sabi ko… ok ka lang ba?” She repeated as she waved her hand infront of him. “Oo naman” he finally answered. “So ano, gusto mo ba? Siguro naman ok na etong place na ito for you para sa clinic mo. At kung may kailangan ayusin, sabihan mo lang ako” he said (pointing to the offices and rooms) “Kakausapin ko na rin yong iba kung staff para maka tulong saatin, sa pag aayos dito” he added. Maya was so thrilled. Richard could see the glow in her eyes as she looked around. He couldn’t be any happier for her and the fact that he was part of making her wish come true. “Thank you ulit Richard!” she said softly (smiling as she looked at him)

 

The next few weeks Maya and her family cleaned the offices. Richard would come along to help when he wasn’t busy at work. He also sent Liza over to help out along with a few other staff. “Maya, na post ko na pala yong mga openings para maka start na tayong mag hanap nang mga staff mo dito” Liza said as they continued to arrange the offices and the exam areas. “Liza, salamat talaga sa lahat nang tulong nyo saakin ni Chard ah!” Maya smiling at her friend. “Oo naman, glad to help rin ako noh!” Liza happily replied. “Nga pala Liza, yong reseptionist position wag mo nang i-post. Nag hahanap rin kasi nang trabaho ang pinsan ko kaya sabi ko, kung willing syang mag work dito eh may opening tayo. Dadating sya mamaya kasama ni Nanay, papakilala ko sya sayo” she said to Liza (smiling) “Alam mo Maya, natutuwa ako at naka balik ka na dito… less masungit si Richard since you came back” Liza said as they continued to work. “Eh ano ba kasi nangyari kay Chard? Kinausap ako datin ni Ninang, pero pag kausap ko si chard sa phone, hindi sya nag sasalita sa naging problema nya kay Ate Alex. Kaya hanggang ngayon wala pa rin akung alam kung anong nanyari sakanilang dalawa. Kala ko nga sya na yon pakakasalan ni Chard eh!” Maya said. “Naku.. sya nalang ang kausapin mo, baka mamaya magalit pa saakin yan” she said teasing “Kahit matagal na kaming makaibigan ni Richard, boss ko pa rin yan. At kahit kanino ata walang syang binagit na reason kung bakit nawala na lang bigla si Alex”. Liza added “Yong nga ang problema eh, ako ang best friend in the whole world pero ayaw sabihin saakin. Paano ko sya matutulongang kung hindi ko alam ang problema.” Maya said (frowning) “Pero kahit ganon yan… wala rin naman akung magagawa eh. Hindi naman ako pwedeng mahimasok sa buhay nya? After all 12 years na rin kaming hindi nang kita” she said in a low voice. “Basta Maya… masaya ako kasi masaya na sya.. at nandito kana! Super sungit at woman hater yan si Richard specially since Alex. Kaya tuwang tuwa kami na nakikita na ulit naman yan tumawa at ngiti. Dahil lang sa best friend!” Liza teasing her. “Kaw talaga, kung ano ano ang iniisip mo. Best Friend nga lang noh! Maya smiled (deep down kilig naman sya) “At isa pa…. matagal nang masungit si Richard! Hindi na magbabago yon… kahit nong mga bata pa kami masungit na yon! she said (both of them laughed)

 

NT: Maya…. anak. ano ang maitutulong namin sa inyo? (NT and Doris looking at them)

 

Maya: Hi Nay…. Hi Doris… (hugging them both)

 

Doris: Maya… kamusta ka na?? Ayyy… or should i say Doctora dela Rosa… (smiling)

 

Maya: Ano ka ba Doris, Maya lang noh. Pinsan kita..family. (smiling) Nga pala.. (turning to Liza) Doris, Nay si Liza po kaibigan at secretary ni Chard sa Lim Avaition.

 

Liza: Hi Nay Teresita at Doris. It’s so nice to finally meet you both?

 

NT: Nice to meet you too Liza. Ikaw pala yong kwenekwento saamin ni Richard. Salamat sa mga tulong nyo dito kay Maya.

 

Liza: Wala po yon (smiling at NT)

 

NT: Nak, nga pala.. na alala mo ba si Simon (refering to Maya’s kababata at long time suitor)

 

Doris: Uy, Nay naman paano naman makakalimutan ni Maya yan.. eh diba manliligaw nya yan ever since kinder yata sila (both laughing…)

 

Maya: Uy, kayong dalwa talaga… walang ganyan. Mabait naman si Simon, pero kaibigan lang talaga ang tingin ko sa kanya. Anyway, bakit nga po pala Nay?

 

NT: Kasi tapos na rin pala sya sa nursing at nag hahanap nang bagong trabaho. Eh kung kailangan mo nang staff baka pwede rin sya?

 

Maya: Sige po Nay, paki sabi tawagan na lang nya si Liza. (smile) Doris, lika pakita ko sayo ang maging desk area mo. Tapos si Liza na rin ang mag train sayo para sa susunod ikaw na lang ang mag handle nang mga bagong employees natin. (walking over to the front office)

 

Doris: Ok, salamant ulit Maya!

 

Maya: Ano ka ba, wala yon noh. Sino paba ang mag tutulongan kung di ang pamiliya natin diba. (hugging her)

 

Liza: Nanay Teresita, ang bait bait talaga nang anak nyo. (looking at Maya and Doris for a distance)

 

NT: Ayy Liza, ganyan talaga si Maya namin. Palaging inuuna ang ibang tao bago sarili nya. (teary-eyed)

 

After a long month of getting everything organized, Maya was able to finally open the Clinic. It wasn’t big but it was something she can call her very own. This was her dream and thanks to her family and Richard she was able to reach her goals in life. After the opening of the clinic Maya and Richard were both busy with their schedules. Maya working long hours and vise versa that they hardly got to spend time with each other. Richard would drop by from time to time to have lunch with her when she was free but they never saw each other much since she started to work. The first week the clinic was open they saw each other every other day… then once a week.. then once in a few weeks.. until they got too busy that most of the time they would send each other text messages just to keep in touch. It was hard since Maya worked almost everyday and Richard had his site visits in and out of the country.

Richard was up late in his office at the house. He was going through some papers and emails. He wasn’t sleepy but could feel the tiredness closing in. He closed his laptop lid and sat back on his chair. The thought of “Maya’s kiss on his cheeks” appeared in his head again. (na pa ngiti sya) “Si Maya talaga… ” he whsipered. He picked up his phone to see if she had texted him today, but nothing. Sunddenly he was reminded of how he didn’t want to open his heart to anyone, he didn’t want to feel that happy feeling he felt before. He didn’t want to get hurt again. He thought of her… “nasaan na kaya si Alex? Kamusta na kaya sya?” he wondered (sadness filled his face) “Bakit mo ako iniwan?” He said in an angry tone. “Sinira mo ang buhay ko.. at ang mga pangarap ko para saatin dalawa” he was depressed.. angry and alone… (he closed his eyes and made a fist)

 

~*~ Flash Back (6 years ago)

Two days before their 2 year anniversary. Richard had planned a romantic dinner for the two of them. He also planned on asking her to marry him. He made reservations at their favorite restuarant “Spiral”. It was going to be the best anniversary ever. (he thought) Alex was the prefect woman for him. She was always there to brighten his day. Aside from Maya his best friend in the whole world, Alex was the only other person that knew him inside and out. She was always there to support him in all his endeavours. She was there to make him laugh when he needed cheering up and she was there when he needs someone to talk to and just listen. She knew how to lessen his stress at work. She was always there to take care of him. He was willing to do anything for her, he treated her as a princess, his one true happiness. He had given her everything, what ever she wanted he made sure she had it. He in turn took care of her the way she took care of him. On the day of their anniversary, he waited… and waited. He wanted to pick her up but she insisted they just meet up at the restuarant at 8pm. She never showed up, she left him there all alone without notice. He called her but the number could not be reached. Richard waited at Spirals for 4 hours, she didn’t call or even text. He when to her place and found it empty, like no one ever lived there. He was devastated, he didn’t know how to reach her or where to search for her. All her family and friends didn’t know where she was. She just vanished without a trace. She didn’t even leave him a note to let him know why she was leaving.. when she will be back or where she was going. It was like she didn’t exsist. That distroyed Richard’s life, specially his happiness. One minute she was there to make him happy.. the sunshine that brightened his life and the next minute.. she was gone like the wind, dark, cold.. no life what so ever. No trace of her insight. He never thought that someone like Alex can do that to him. He was going to ask her to share their life together… forever! How could the only person he gave his whole heart to, just shatter it in a million pieces? How can he ever recover or mend his broken heart, knowing he will never know why she left him. He wanted answers, but found none… he was bitter and lifeless.

 

Days.. turned into weeks… than months. He continued to search for her, but always comes up with nothing. All he can do was wonder. “Why did you leave me?” He lost all hope.. to a point where his career and business that he had worked so hard in building was affected. He was more serious and masungit as ever, he poured everything in his work.. what remained of his life without her. All he did was focus on his business.. work, work and more work. Trying to keep his mind full so he didn’t have time to think of her and the agony and pain she has caused him. He was always angry and bitter, he became a woman hater as he use to call it. Richard never turned his depression to drinking or anthing too foolish that would distroy their family name. He did however changed his feelings towards any one (oppisite sex) that tried to get close to him. He was the most available and wanted bachelor but, never acted on it, so many tried to get his attention, but he brushed them off. To him… there was only his parents, his best friend and his business. He built a wall around his heart so he doesn’t feel any pain and suffering. After a year had pasted, he still was unable to find her or hear from her. Richard took everything and anything that reminded him of her and discarded it. He didn’t want to see anything that belong to her. All their pictures together, letters and other memories he had of her he threw away or burned. Richard’s parents were very concerned for him during those dark times. He was up early… and always went home late after work. Even on weekends he spent his time working. Donya Esmeralda was very upset at Alex for ruining her son’s life and happiness. They didn’t know how to help him get over his hurt, they didn’t know where to turn. One evening Donya Esmeralda had no other choice.. she thought of Maya in the states and had called her to see if she can get him out of his depression. Maya would call Richard weekly just to check up on him. Although they were best of friends, she could never get Richard to talk about Alex or what happened. To him.. everything was an open book and he was willing to tell Maya everything exept the most painful memory he had of him and Alex. Maya managed to brighten up his days, he still didn’t trust anyone but her. For him she was different, she was the one true person that would never leave him. They have been through so much together. Being 8 years older then her, he always treated her as a sister or someone more dear to him besides his parents. Aside from his family she was the most important person in his life, specially when Alex left. Maya couldn’t change the bitterness or anger he held inside, but she never failed to let him know or feel that she will always be with him no matter what happens.. “through thick and thin” she would say. Richard trusts her because he knows, even when they are miles apart she has always been there for him, no matter how busy she was with school, training and internship, she always made time for him. To him, that was the most important thing. It wasn’t the distance… or the gap between them.. it was their long lasting friendship.

 

~*~ Office (present day)

Richard looking back to those days… was thankful that Maya was always there for him to change his mode and help him recover from his dark, lonely days. Even if she wasn’t in the philippines at that time, she never let him feel like he was alone. She constantly called, emailed and texted him. He was glad she was around in his time of need. Although til now, he has never let her know what happened between him and Alex. “How can he” he thought… even i don’t know what happened… she just left” he told himself. He reached over at the bottom drawer of his desk. He pulled out a red velvet box. As he opened it and looked at the Princess Cut Diamond ring he bought to give to Alex on their 2nd year anniversary. (Teary eyed) he stared at the ring for a moment, before shutting the box and putting it back in the bottom drawer. Richard looked back at the unfinished paper work he was trying to work on early. He was tired.. it has been a long night, he didn’t want to think of work… No he didnt’ want to think of her!! “It’s time to move on” he said to himself as he got up from his chair exited his office to headed to his bedroom to get some rest.

 

~*~ Lim Aviation

Richard was in his office early the next day. He wanted all the negative thoughts out of his head. What better way then to spend the time with Maya he thought. She always knew how to make him feel happy and he wasn’t going to let the bad memories get the best of him. He was over her, he told himself. “I have finally moved on” pabulong sa sarili. He finished up all of the documents that Liza had left for him to go through and sign. He checked on last few emails and replied to them. “Liza” he called her on the intercom. “Do I have any other meetings today?” he asked “No Sir, Joma and Sonny already covered the afternoon meeting and you don’t need to attend unless you want to join them “She said on the other line. “No, it’s ok. I know they can handle it without me”. he answered. “Sir, did you need anything else? she asked “Yes, can you come by my office, thank you” he said. A few minutes later Liza knocked on the door “Come in” he said. “Yes, Sir” she replied. “Liza, here are the papers and documentations for our meeting tomorrow. I’m going to leave now, unless you have anything else for me” he asked (looking at her) “No Sir, everything else has been completed and signed” she replied. “Ok, I will go ahead then, if you need to get a hold of me, call me on my cell or sa Clinic”. he said, as he got his car keys from the table. “Oh by the way, if you are done… you can leave early if you like. Paki sabi na lang kila Joma to lock up when their meeting is done” he smiled and walked out the door. “Thank you” Liza said (smiling)

 

~*~ Clinic

Richard decided to drive down to the clinic to check on Maya and to see if she had sometime so they can have a late lunch or dinner. After all it’s been awhile since they’ve seen each other or even hangout. He needed her “Good Vibes” he thought. He just wanted to spend some time with her before they both get too busy again. As he drove in the parking lot, he noticed a lot of cars. “Aba, busy ata si Doctora dela Rosa ah” he said (smiling to himself) As soon as he parked, he got out of the car and walked inside the building.

 

Richard: Doris…. (he greeted her with his lopsided smile)

 

Doris: Hi Richard… musta na? Long time no see ah… (she said, smiling at him)

 

Richard: Oo nga eh, busy kasi sa trabaho. Busy ba si Maya? (looking around the room)

 

Doris: Oo Chard, nandoon sya sa exam room 1, pero kung gusto mo doon mo na lang sya hintayin sa opis nya.

 

Richard: Oh sige.. (as he was about to walk away he saw a familiar face, turning back to her) Doris…. si Simon ba yon?

 

Doris: Oo… sya yng isa sa mga bagong nurses dito sa clinic.

 

Richard: Ahh… diba yon yong dating manliligaw ni Maya (grinning)

 

Doris: korek ka dyan (giggling)

 

Richard: Humanda si Bes…. asar talo sya saakin mamaya (they both chuckled) Sige.. doon muna ako sa opis nya (as he was about to turn to Maya’s office he saw another guy walk up to the front counter)

 

Peter: Doris… paki file na lang eto. At paki sabi na rin kay Dr. dela Rosa na tapos na yon patiente sa exam room 3. Pero meron pari sa room 4 and 5. Ako na ang pupunta doon sa room 4, para hindi na sya matagalan pa. (smiling down at her)

 

Doris: Sige po Dr. Delgado. (as he walked away – Doris gazing at him….) Ang gwapo nya… (sigh)

 

Richard: Pssst… Doris, sino naman yon? (pointing at Peter)

 

Doris: Ahh yon, si Dr. Delgado… (naka ngiti looking at the young doctor) yong ang gwapong gwapo na katulong dito ni Insan… two times a week. Sa sobrang dami na dumadating na patiente dito, kawawa si Maya. Halus hindi na nga nakaka kain yan eh. “Puro mamaya na lang, busy pa” ang laging sagot saakin. Kaya nga pati si Nanay Teresita nag aalala sa kanya eh. Kasi pag dating daw sa bahay, pagod na so hindi rin nakaka kain. (Doris looking up at him, grinning)

 

Richard: Oh.. eh bakit kung makatingin ka saakin parang may something… (puzzled look on his face)

 

Doris: Baka pwede mong kausapin si insan. Alam mo naman yan… basta makatulong walang pakialam sa sarili. Eh since ikaw naman ang besprend… baka pwede ikaw na rin ang mag sabi.. siguro naman makikinig yan sayo. (half smile)

 

Richard: Sige, salamat sa information ah. Wag mo na lang sabihin na alam ko. Baka magalit pa yan sayo (he smiled) Ako na lang bahala. Paki text na lang si Ninang.. sabihin mo na kinusap nya ako.. sakaling mag tanong si. (winking at her)

 

Doris: Salamat ah… (Mwaahuggs!)

 

Richard: (laughing) Wala yon. Sige na, ako ang bahala kay Maya (turning back to go to Maya’s office)

 

It was close to 6pm, Richard has been waiting for Maya for over 3 hours. He stayed busy reading magazines in her office or was on her desk computer answering emails to keep himself from being bored. “Ang tagal naman ni Maya” he finally said to himself. (looking out the window) He finally saw her at the front counter talking to Doris. (Maya saw Richard through her office window and waved). She was on her way to her office when Dr. Delgado stopped her. Richard could see them through the office window. Biglang tumaas ang mga kilay ni Richard. “Sus, kanina pa ako nag hihintay dito, tapos doon lang sya nakikipagkwentohan.. (Tiger-mode) Maya glanced over her office and could see Richards face from a far. She excused herself from Peter and walked in her office. “Aba… himala nag kita na ulit tayo. Kala ko nawalang na ako nang Best Friend eh” she said (smiling – trying to ease the tenson) as she sat at her desk “Sus, ikaw nga dyan ang super busy eh. (looking at the front counter) Sino na kaya saatin ang Big Time… Dr. dela Rosa” he teased. “Sira ka talaga” she laughed “Ano nga pala ang ginagawa mo dito?” she asked (while going through some paperwork) “Wala lang, gusto lang kitang makita at makasama, bakit masama ba? Atsaka balita ko hindi ka pa raw kumakain?” (upset look on his face) “Sino naman nag balita sayo nyan?” she asked (looking outside where Doris was seated) “Si Ninang..” he replied “Hah.. nag sumbong sayo si Nanay?” she said. (puzzled look on her face) “Hoy, Dr. dela Rosa… just because nag aalaga ka nang mga patiente.. it doesn’t mean hindi mo na aalagaan ang sarili mo. Paano mo sila magagamot kung ikaw naman ang magkakasakit? Aber? Ano… may kontra ka sa sinasabi ko?” he said in an upset tone. “Aba Mr. Sungit, talagang kina-career mo na yang pagiging masungit mo ah” she said (half smile on her face) “Ms Maya dela Rosa…. hindi ako masungit sayo, concerned lang” (tiger-mode) he said again “Oh sya… sige na. Hindi naman ako mananalo sa kasungitan mo eh” (teasing him) “sorry na po… bati na po tayo” she said (as she playfully pushed him) “Tatawa na yan… uyyy” she said trying to make him laugh. (smiling.. then pouting at him) “Mr. Lim, tama na nga yan drama mo. Minsan ka na nga lang dumaan dito, tiger mode ka na naman! Ano ba, mag dradrama ka na lang ba dito or aalis na tayo para makakain? Gutom na ako…. (half smile) Lika na!” she said (getting up, grabbing her bag and pulling him by the arm) as they made their way of of the building.

 

They arrived at a buffet place. Richard opened the car door for Maya and helped her out. “Aba talagang super gentleman ka ngayon ah….” she tease (as she took off her lab coat and placed it inside his car before closing the door). “Anong ngayon, palagi naman ah.. kung hindi ako gentleman eh di sana hindi na kita pinag buksan nang pinto” (smiling at her) They walked in as the server greeted them. “Good evening Sir.. Ma’am” she said, as she stared at Richard. “This way please” trying to get him to notice her as she lead them to an empty table by the window. She continued to stare at Richard, pero hindi eto pinansin. He pulled the chair so Maya can sit. Maya noticed the server. “Ano ba naman yan.. pati dito na lang” she said to herself (nakasimangot). “Maya, ok ka lang ba?” Richard asked. “Maya…” he said again! ” Ay.. kalabaw.. ay.. sorry.. ” she managed to say “Sure ka lang ok ka ah” he said (concerned) Oo naman..” she said (giving him a smile) “Oh eh trara na, kala ko ba gutom ka na?” he said (As they both walked over to get their food. When they returned to the table habang kumakain, nag kwentohan na lang silang dalawa at tawanan. Maya told him about the Clinic and he told her about his new sites that he will be visiting soon.

 

Richard: Nga pala Bes… nakita ko si Simon kanina ah. Doon na pala sya nag tratrabaho sa clinic mo? Naks… ano.. patay na patay pa rin ba sya sayo? (poking her side)

 

Maya: Tignan mo tong taong to… magkaibigan lang kami ni Simon.

 

Richard: Talaga lang ah…. siguro ikaw kaibigan.. eh may nag sabi ba sa kanya? (laughing)

 

Maya: Chard talaga… kung ano ano ang iniisip mo. Ang tagal na non noh. atsaka may asawa na sya.

 

Richard: Uyyy affected…

 

Maya: (hits Richard on the arm) anong affected ka dyan.. sira ka talaga (sayo lang ako affected noh.. pabulong sa sarili)

 

Richard: Ano yon… may sinasabi ka Bes?

 

Maya: wala… sabi ko Sira ka…

 

Richard: Eh sino naman yong bago mong co-doctor. Kita ko rin sya kanina kausap si Doris.. na gwapong gwapo daw… (na pa iling na lang si Richard nung na alala ang comment ni Doris)

 

Maya: Ahhh yon… Si Dr. Peter Delgado. Sya yong katulong kung Doctor doon sa Clinic, pero 2 times a week lang kasi may trabaho sya sa ospital. Mabait naman at magalang. Mabait sya sa mga bata at magaling na Doctor. (smiling)

 

Richard: (Tiger look) Oh.. eh bakit super smile ka dyan? May gusto ka sa kanya noh!! Aminin… (poking her again)

 

Maya: Wala noh! Kaw talaga.. kung ano ano ang pumapasok sa isip mo, co-doctor ko lang yon (Ikaw lang ang gusto ko, na pa bulong ulit sa sarili)

 

Richard: Hah.. ano yon? Bes talaga.. pabulong bulong pa.. sabihin mo na kasi.. may crush ka doon noh! Aamin na yan…. uyyy si Bes.. dalagang dalaga na.. may crush na… (teasing)

 

Maya: Ayyy ewan ko sayo! (pouting) manahimik ka na nga dyan… (kung di lang kita mahal eh… sabi sa sarili – half smile as she stares at Richard)

 

Richard: Sige na nga.. wala ka nang crush… (as he pulled back the hair that was hangging infront of her face and set it back behind her ear, slightly touching her face)

 

Maya: ah.. eh.. salamat (trying to smile. Nagulat na lang si maya sa pag hawak ni Richard sa mukah nya)

 

Richard: Ohh ano na busog ka ba? May gusto ka pa bang kainin? Coffee.. Dessert…?

Maya: oo, salamat ulit sa dinner! Ok na ako. Thank you na lang. (Si Bes talaga, kung mag pakilig… grabe!)

 

Richard: Ano alis na tayo? Hatid na kita… Late na rin. (As he helps her up from her seat)

 

Maya: Ok, salamat (Maya could feel Richards arm behind her back as he slightly walked behind her… and they walked out of the restuarant)

 

They were both silent on the ride home. “Naku Bes… ” (taping Richard on the hand, as she remember she drove to work today) “Doon mo na lang pala ako sa clinic ihatid. Nag drive ako kanina diba” she said “Oh sige” He answered smiling at her. When they arrived at the clinic, Richard waited until Maya was in her car. He followed her home, since they only lived a few houses down from one another. As soon as she reached her house she rolled down the window and said “Salamat ulit sa dinner” smiling at him. “Any time..” he said before driving away. Tuwang tuwa si Maya at she was able to spend some time with him. They both have been so busy lately that kahit man lang sa text hindi na sila nakapag usap. She walked in the house and was greeted by her Nanay. “Good evening anak” NT said ” Hi Nay… kamusta po?” Maya asked. “Ok lang kami, maaga ka ata ngayon? (smiling at her) “Opo, dumaan po kasi si chard sa clinic at nag dinner kami” she replied happily “Buti naman at kumain ka ngayon. Si Richard lang pala ang kailangan kung padaan sa clinic mo para kumain ka eh” teasing her daughter “Si Nanay talaga oh” Maya said (blushing) “Sige Nay, mauna na po ako sa inyo at pagod na rin po ako” she said as she kissed NT “Good Night po” she said before heading off to her room.

 

11pm and Maya just tost and turned in bed, she couldn’t sleep even though she could feel the tiredness in her body. Her mind was wide awake…. she kept thinking about her dinner with Richard earlier. She thought of the warmth she felt when he touched her face. “Ano ka ba Maya, hanggang best friend ka lang non! Paano naman mag kakagusto sayo si Richard, hindi ka naman si Alex” she told herself (na lungkot) “Pwede kaya nya akung mahalin?” she asked herself “Mahal na mahal kita Chard, sana ako na lang!” as she laid in her bed… (closing her eyes as she thought of him) *beep* *beep* She quickly opened her eyes and grabbed the phone from her nightstand. “Nag text si Chard” she said happily

 

(Text between Maya and Richard)

Richard: Bes, ako na lang mag hahatid sayo sa Clinic bukas. Carpool na lang tayo. Tutal malapit lang naman ang opis ko. =)

 

Maya: Naku Chard, wag na.. maaga ang pasok ko bukas, baka mahirapan ka lang. Salamat na lang sa alok. (Pero kinikilig naman si Maya)

 

Richard: Ano ka ba, ok lang yon noh! Atsaka para na rin may bonding time pa rin tayo.. katulad nong dati. Sagabal kasi ang mga trabaho eh.. =)

 

Maya: Aba Mr. Lim… kala ko ba pag trabaho dapat serious?

 

Richard: Sus.. serious naman tayo palagi sa work eh, hindi ko naman sinabi pababayaan natin ang trabaho noh! =P

 

Maya: (natawa sa text ni chard) Sigurado ka ba? Ayaw ko lang maging hassle para sayo ang pag hatid.. tapos kailangan mo pa akung sunduin. Hindi ba parang ginawa na kitang service nya.  =(

 

Richard: Diba sabi ko nga.. ok lang. Atsaka… parang ginawa mo naman kalayo layo ang mga bahay natin sa isat-isa.. eh 5 houses down ka lang. Loka ka talaga! =P

 

Maya: Oo nga, sabi ko nga… sabay na lang tayo. =) Sige Chard, antok na ako. Bukas na lang ulit ang kakulitan mo. Salamat ulit. Good Night!  (As she stared at her phone and kissed it) “Good Night Richard Lim” she said smiling)

 

Richard: Sige Bes, see you tomorrow. Good Night =) Sweet dreams. (Napa ngiti na lang habang naka tingin sa phone nya) Si Maya talaga….

 

Natuwa naman si Maya. Magkakasama ulit sila nang crush nya. Paulit ulit nyan binasa ang text ni Richard sa kanya hanggat sa naka tulog na sya. Si Richard din, nahirapan maka tulog. Naisip nya si Maya. (na pa ngiti ulit) “See you tomorrow Maya….” he said before dosing off to dreamland.

 

The next few weeks… lagi silang magkasama. Hatid, sundo nya si Maya… nagkwetuhan sa umaga at sa pag uwi. Sometimes Richard will drop by para mag lunch sila near by, para laging nakakakain si Maya or dadalhan sya nang pagkain ni Richard at doon sila sa opisina ni Maya. Friday afternoon, dumating si Richard sa Clinic. “Hi Richard” greeted Doris “Hi Doris, musta?” he replied. “Ang aga yata ang sundo ni Doctora” she laughed “Kaw talaga Doris, kahit ka lang…” he said (smiling at her) “Si Maya?” he asked (looking around the room) “Ay.. nandoon kasama yon silang patiente n’ya” she replied as she pointed to the 1st Exam Room. Moments later lumabas na si Maya may kasamang bata. “Oh hi Chard” Maya happily greeted “Ang aga mo ata” she said (smiling) “Oo eh wala akung meeting ngayon eh” he replied. Na isip ko baka gusto mong mag dinner, kung tapos ka na?” he said (looking at the little girl with Maya) “Oh.. nga pala Chard, this is Abby.” Maya bent down to introduce the little girl to Richard “Abby, this is my best friend Richard” (Maya looking up at Richard and smiled) “Hi Abby, how are you?” he asked the little girl “Im ok na po ngayon, thanks to Doctora Maya” she said (Big smile on her face) “Ang cute mo naman, ilang taon ka na Abby?” he asked “I’m 6 years old na po” she answered smiling at him. (Maya looks up at Doris) “Insan, tapos na si Abby…. saan na yong tatay nya?” Maya asked. “Ah eh.. lumabas sandali may kinuha sa kotse. “Ah ok” she said “Abby, wag mong kalimutan ang vitamins mo ah, at remember babalik ka dito in 2 weeks para ma-check ulit kita” said to the litte girl and smiled “Opo Doctora” she replied as she opened her arms and gave Maya a big hug! (Richard just watched as the little girl embraces Maya.. how sweet he thought) “Awww ang sweet mo naman Baby” Maya said “Thank you po ulit” she answered (sweet little voice) Her father enters the door “Abby are you done?” he asked (As the little girl runs to her father) “Yes Daddy” she said happily. “Doctora gave me vitamins and she said I have to return for my check up in 2 weeks” (Abby’s dad looks at Maya “Salamat Doctora, babalik na lang po kami in two weeks” he said. “Wala po ano man Mr. Cruz” Maya replied and waved good bye to Abby. “Bye Po” she said (smiling as they walked out the door). Maya and Richard walk to her office. “Ano Maya, may patiente ka pa or pwede ka nang umalis?” he asked. “Check ko lang kay Doris, wait lang ah” as she stepped out of the office. Richard just watched her from the window. (na pa ngiti) Then he saw Peter stand by the front counter talking to Maya and Doris (napa buntong hininga na lang sya at sumimangot na lang bigla) “Richard, kalma lang.. co-worker lang yan ni Maya. At bakit ka ba ganyan, hindi mo naman girlfriend si Maya” he said to himself. (Napa bulong sa sarili…) “Girlfriend”.. (Still watching them from the office)Minutes later Maya walked in. “Chard, lets go. Sila Doris at Peter na lang daw ang bahala sa Clinic. May isang patiente na lang daw pero kaya na ni Peter yon” she said… (Si Richard tulala pa rin) “Earth to Richard… ok ka lang ba?” she asked touching his forehead (Nagulat si Richard) “Oo naman… hinihintay lang kita noh” he said as he walked out of her office “Ano kaya nanyari doon” Maya said pabulong (scratching her head). “Si Chard talaga… ang hirap basahin” (napa iling na lang si Maya) as she got her back and followed him out.

 

~*~ 2 weeks later sa Clinic

3pm, friday afternoon as he drove down to the clinic to pickup Maya. He entered the parking lot and he noticed that there wasn’t too many cars parked. He parked his car and walked into the building. “Hi Doris..” he said (smiling) he looked around as he usually does. “Hi Richard” she replied. “Aba, parang hindi kayo ganon ka busy ngayon ah” he said looking at her. “Oo maagang na tapos sila Maya” she replied (smiling) “Ah okie, eh nasaan na si Maya?”he asked “nasa exam room 1 kasama si Abby, pero patapos na rin yon mga yon” she answered. “Doris, pakisabi ka Doctora dela Rosa mauuna na ako? May duty pa ako sa ospital mamaya eh” Peter said “Ok po Dr. Delgado” Doris replied. Before leaving he turned to Richard and greeted him “Hi Richard, sige mauna na ako sa inyo” he said “Sige Doc” Richard replied and smiled. As Peter walked out the door. Moments later lumabas na sila Maya at Abby “Hello po ulit” Abby greeted him with a smile “Hi Abby… how are you today? he asked the little girl. “I’m great po” she said happily “Doris, may patiente pa ba tayo?” Maya asked “Wala na insan, si Abby na ang last” she replied “Si Dr. Delgado kakaalis lang, may duty pa raw sya mamaya sa ospital. “Ah Ok” Maya said. Before Maya could ask Doris another question Abby’s mom walks in “Hi Baby, tapos k…..” before the woman could finish her sentence she froze in her tracks… “Richard.. ” she said in shock.(Staring at him)  “Alex”… Richard replied (Tiger mode) Nagulat na lang si Maya… (Napa tingin sa dalawa) “Kaya pala parang familiar saakin yon babaeng yan… sabi ko na nga ba I’ve seen her before” she thought. “Buhay ka? Nandito ka sa Philippinas?” Richard said in an angry tone (Still shocked that Alex was standing right in front of him)…..
