NEVER GONNA GIVE YOU UP
True love is worth fighting for. Kapit-bisig lang!

By iamgarie

June 17 episode
Naging masaya kayo. Nabuo ulit. Ayokong masira yun. Ayokong masayang lahat nang pinaghirapan mo. Ayokong bumalik kayo sa dati.

ARE YOU BREAKING UP WITH ME?
Maya shows us that her love for Richard is worth fighting for. She is not about to give up on their love.
She sees his pained expression, and she dismisses his worst fear.
Kaya natin ‘to.
She opens her arms to him for a warm embrace, and reassures him,
Kaya natin ‘to.

HUWAG KANG KAKABAHAN. NANDITO LANG AKO.
Richard shows us that his love for Maya is worth fighting for. He is not about to give up on their love.
Luke: Dad, sorry po. Pagbaba po namin kanina wala na kayo… Galit po ba kayo sa ‘min, Dad?

Richard: No, but I’m so disappointed with both of you… I know you don’t like Maya, but I won’t let you treat her that way. You ignored her all night. And then, you walked out on her. And worst of all, you let Abby hear you talking about her. Leave Abby out of this. She’s just a child.
Luke is apologetic.
Sorry, Dad.
Nikki remains indifferent. Richard calls her attention,
Nikki?

Nikki says sorry, too. But we don’t feel her remorse nor shame. I have always been one to defend Nikki and her actions. But in this instance, I can’t. I am disheartened by the disrespect she showed her Dad and her Ate Maya. I no longer understand why she has this vehement dislike for Maya.
In another scene, we even find her asking her Kuya Luke if he thinks it’s okay to ask their Dad for new shoes and a new bag. Really, Nikki? How insensitive can you get! I just hate you right now!
*******

Maya’s influence on Abby remains ever present. Sensing her Dad’s loneliness, our little Maya joins him in the veranda, in an attempt to make him smile. She says,
Daddy, wag na po kayong malungkot. Everything is okay… There’s something there… (Isn’t this a de’javu of sorts? In her early days in the mansion, Maya has done this very same thing for Richard.)

Richard sees a post it note attached to his cup, with a drawing of a happy family. Abby tells him,
See, Daddy. We’re all smiling. You, me, Ate Maya, Ate Nikki and Kuya Luke.
Richard breaks into a smile and hugs his youngest daughter.
Thank you, baby.

June 18 episode
Richard is not about to give up on his kids, too. He is not about to make Maya’s worst fear become a reality. He calls Luke and Nikki to join him and Abby for breakfast.
Nikki: We’re not hungry yet, Dad.

Luke: Susunod na lang po ako, Dad.

Richard: No, sabay-sabay tayo kakain.
At breakfast, we once again watch Richard reach out to his kids.
Richard: Let’s go to the mall later. Alam ko nakabili na kayo kahapon pero samahan niyo naman kami ni Abby to buy her things.

Abby: Yay!

Nikki: Ah, Dad, sina Megan at Stacey kasi…
We see Richard’s pained expression as he looks down and tells the kids,
Ahm, only the four of us will go.
What’s with you, Nikki? I can no longer understand why you seem to abhor Maya all over again. She has been nothing but kind, thoughtful and sweet to you. You have become friends and you have developed a very loving relationship with her. She’s been the one you’ve been opening up to whenever something bothers you. I know you love her, Niks! What happened? What is it with you? Let us in, Niks! At the mall, you were at it again with Abby…
Nikki to Abby: Kami lang nina Dad and Kuya maghahatid sa yo, ha.

Abby: Hindi po kasama si Ate Maya?

Nikki: Ha? Hindi… No… Okay lang kasama siya.
… and then with your Dad. You simply see him checking out a woman’s black purse, and you pout in disgust again.

I am glad that despite your seeming disappointment, Richard calls on a saleslady and says,
Miss, I’ll take this…
You also foil your Dad’s attempt of reaching out to you.
Richard: Are you done? I saw something there that you might want to try.

Nikki: It’s okay na, Dad. Baby, let’s go!

Nikki, your Dad loves your Ate Maya! Accept that and move on! Just be happy for them. She is not out to take your Dad away from you. She loves you and your siblings just as much! She’s the only woman your Dad may ever love in this lifetime. You have witnessed and lived with your Dad’s pain for five long, lonely years. You have worked hard during those five long lonely years to keep your family intact. You were your family’s strength then. While your Dad, Luke and Abby were grieving your Mom’s loss, you were the glue who tried to keep them together. And all of a sudden, this? Where did that selfless teenage girl go? Why foil your Dad’s chance at happiness? Why does your Ate Maya seem so wrong for your Dad? Let us in, Nikki. We want to understand you. Just like your Dad and your Ate Maya, we are not giving up on you just yet!

True love entails sacrifice.
Before going to the mall, we hear Richard talk with Maya over the phone, and sense how much they miss each other.

Richard: Okay.

Maya: I LOVEYOU!

Richard: I LOVE YOU, TOO!

At Emman’s condo, we hear Maya ask Doris and Sabel how Richard is, and we see the love and longing in her eyes as she listens to them talk about her Ser Chief.

Doris: Yun, parang nami-miss ka.

Maya: Hmmm…?

Doris: Oo. Kasi walang kislap ang kanyang mga mata.

Sabel: Walang sigla ang kanyang pananalita.

Doris: At tsaka parang nangungulila.

After going out with the kids, Richard is on the phone with Maya again as they talk about the kids and Maya’s day out with Emman, Doris and Sabel…

Maya: Ser Chief?

Richard: I’m listening.

Maya: Tapos, eto pa…(Maya continues talking about her day with Emman, Doris and Sabel.)

Richard: (Smiles…) Tinahi mo pa?

Maya: Oo naman, Ser Chief. sayang naman kasi.

Richard: I MISS YOU!

Maya: SOBRANG MISS NA MISS KITA!

June 19 episode
Luke: O, Manang Fe, may lakad po kayo?

Manang Fe: Kay Maya.
Luke notices the paper bag (containing Maya’s black purse) Joma is holding and he asks Manang Fe,

Hindi po si Dad ang maghahatid?
Manang Fe shakes her head. Luke delves further.
Bakit po?

A knowing smile is all he receives from her.
Luke is left wondering. We sense his discomfort. He is finally starting to realize how much his Dad loves Maya and just how much his Dad loves them, too. Luke senses how torn his Dad is by his current predicament: his two teenage kids are against the woman he loves. But he is still Daddy and he wants to make his kids feel that they are important to him. Richard watches over the kids as they spend time in the pool.
*******

Manang Fe finally meets Emman as she visits Maya and hands her Richard’s gift.

Maya is happy with his gift and the message he has for her—
MAYA,

I COMPLETELY TRUST TOUR SEWING SKILLS. I KNOW THAT BAG HAS SENTIMENTAL VALUE. BUT JUST IN CASE YOU NEED ANOTHER ONE… 😉

LOVE,
RICHARD

PS: I MISS YOU
Their exchange of text messages is heartwarming, as always—
Maya: Nandito si Manang Fe. Gumastos ka pa sa bag. Ikaw talaga. Pero salamat.

Richard: You’re welcome… It’s Abby’s first day tomorrow. I want you to be there.

Maya: Ser Chief, gustong-gusto ko rin pumunta. Pero diba hinga muna.

Richard: Can we make this one an exemption? It’s for Abby.

Manang Fe is once again present to rescue our favorite couple from their fears and worries—
Manang Fe to Maya: Kaya mo bang tiisin si Abby?
Maya shakes her head. Manang Fe continues—
Maging matatag kayo. Wag kang bibitiw ha.

Maya and Richard continue their exchange of text messages—
Richard: Maya, you didn’t answer my question. Hindi ka ba sasama paghatid?

Maya: Susubukan ko.

Richard: Hindi kita pipilitin. But I am hoping that you will show up. I miss you.

While swimming with his sisters, we see Luke watch his Dad. We see him notice his Dad’s faraway look and his pain. We all know Luke has experienced heartbreak himself. He looks at his Dad now and we can sense he feels his pain and loneliness.
*******

It’s Abby and Nikki’s first day of school, and Abby is awaiting Maya’s arrival. Upon reaching her school, Abby looks around, searching for her. She is saddened by Maya’s non-presence. (Unknown to Abby, her Ate Maya is watching her from afar, hiding from both Nikki and Luke. Unknown to Maya, Luke has seen her…)

Richard knows Maya all too well. He wants to assure Abby of Maya’s presence. So, he kneels down and tells her,
… Pero you know Ate Maya. You know how stubborn she is. Kahit na sabihin natin na don’t come or she has work, pupunta pa rin yun. Maybe in the middle ofyour class, you’ll just see her standing outside your window.
True enough, Maya searches for Abby’s classroom during class hours. She sees the pink paper airplane by Abby’s classroom window and she smiles. She watches Abby with pride in her eyes.

Indeed, it’s NEVER GIVE UP WEEK for our favorite couple and the Lim kids!

*******

Like all of you, I am most excited to see today’s episode unfold before our very eyes as Luke seems to have a surprise for all of us!
1. In the drive back to mansion, Luke informs his Dad about seeing Maya in school.

2. Luke sees Maya talking with Richard inside his office, and we see him break into a smile. (De ‘javu for me again. I just remembered how Nanay Teresita broke into a smile as she watched Richard and Maya together by the bar at the veranda a month ago!). Did Luke just hear what his Dad and his Ate Maya were talking about or did he simply see and feel how happy his Dad is to see Maya and just how right they are for each other?
Richard: So, nakita mo si Abby?

Maya: Nung papasok kanina.

I know how much you want to see Abby, and I know Abby would be happy pagsumama kamsa pagsundo sa kanya.
3. Nicolo confides to Luke how Aira’s Dad maltreated him, just because he is not rich like Aira’s other suitor. (Niks, I hope you are nothing like Aira’s Dad!)

4. Luke calls out her Ate Maya, smiles at her, and tells her, “Ate Maya, sama ka na sa min sa pagsundo kay Abby.”

Luke’s great turn around is about to take place and we are beyond ourselves in excitement! Thank you, Luke! (Written: early morning of June 20, 2013)
