Richard was pacing around their bedroom. He’s been worried about Maya since she left him an hour ago. He tried to run after her as soon as he grabbed his robe earlier but Maya already left. Joma said he saw her boarded a taxi. Richard called her cellphone,  but she left it at the nightstand after she stormed outside. He knew very well that Maya will go straight to John’s place so Richard called him again.

“Hello Richard!”

It only took a couple of rings then he heard John’s voice on the other line.

“Andyan na ba si Maya?”

“Yes, she’s been crying non-stop. Ano bang nangyari?”

Richard heave a sigh of relief. Thankful that despite the circumstance that they are in, she was safe.

“Can I talk to her?”

“Wait..”

Richard heard John telling Maya that he’s on the phone, he heard her yell telling John that she doesn’t want to talk to him then sobbed. It breaks his heart as he listen to her cries. He could only wish he could hug her that moment.

“Chard, ayaw niya eh…ano bang nangyari?”

Richard could only heave a sigh.

“John, please take care of her. Susunduin ko siya diyan ngayon.”

“Teka, siguro huwag muna. …Just let her spend the night here.”

“I don’t think it’s proper if…”

“Chard … huwag ka mag-alala. She will stay at my room, while I take the couch at the living room, if that’s what you are worrying about. I give you my word.”

“Thanks John..sorry kung naaabala ka namin.”

“No worries..sige kausapin ko muna siya.”

“Okay, bye.”

“Bye.”

Richard slumped at the couch nearby. Closing his eyes for a moment, trying to compose himself when he heard his cellphone ringing. He immediately checked his phone hoping that it’s John but discovered it was Denise. Anger flared through him as soon as he saw her name flashed through the phone’s display.

“What is it this time?!”

He just can’t help but yell at her persistent caller. He was really frustrated at her this time. He was considerate of Denise knowing that she is his business partner’s only daughter but knowing that her call earlier upsets Maya is totally a foul already..

“Look Chard I’m sorry. ”

She was apologetic, he knows that, but the fact that what she did hurt Maya he just can’t let it pass.

“Are you sure Denise?

“Okay fine… I called you honey.”

“WHAT???! So that explains everything! ”

“Look I’m sorry! Di ko naman kasi alam… you know that I always call you that way..”

“I know! And everytime you do that sinasabi ko lagi sa’yo to stop it! Look what you’ve done! My wife is hurting and for goodness sake alam ko iba na iniisip niya! You are ruining my life Denise so please..please stay away from me! From now on stop calling me. If you have some important matters please contact my secretary Liza. You have her number already.”

“Chard! I said I’m sorry. Stop yelling!”

“You know very well di to mangyayari if only you listened Denise. Now please stay away from me!”

Richard ended the call. Tossing his phone on the table, Richard bended his arm at armrest as his fingers massaged his temple. He was mad of himself. If only he didn’t tolerate Denise, he could have prevented this incident from happening.

“Maya tahan na…ano ba kasi nangyari?”

John asked her a few times already and yet Maya refused to tell him anything. She just sit there, crying her heart out while he could only rub her back to help her calm down. Ever since he knew Maya, this was the first time he saw her crying that way.

Trying to threaten her just so she would stop crying and speak up.

Maya stammered then she blow her nose on a tissue. John suppressed a laugh as he handed her another tissue. It really surprised him to know that Maya can still act tough despite the situation she is now in.

“Ano ba kasi nangyari?”

He heard her cleared her throat.

Maya started as she wipes the tears off her cheeks. She reached for the glass of water laid on the table infront of her.

“Oh yun lang nag-iiyak ka na? Oh eh di tawagin mo din siyang darling..or di kaya love…or sweetheart ang asawa mo kung na-iingit ka..”

John replied, trying to lighten the mood .

Maya started sobbing again.

John wanted to insist that she should talk to him first before judging him but knowing how hurt she was at that moment, he could only respect her decision.

Just calm down okay…di ako sanay makita kang ganyan Pi. Saan na yung good vibes ni Maya? ..

Referring to their friends who would surely ask her once they’ll notice her swollen eyes and gloomy mood. John left Maya and proceed to his room to prepare the bed where she will be staying for the night. He knew very well that it would be a tough night for her so she needed all the privacy she needs. Maya will never be Maya if she won’t cry over the situation overnight.

Richard was waiting for her at his home office that morning. John called to inform him that Maya is heading home already. She has a 10:00 o’clock  flight to catch. It’s already seven which means that she will also have to leave the house at once. When he heard the gate opened, Richard leaped to his feet and went straight to the main door. The moment their eyes met he felt  pangs of guilt shot through him as  Maya look at him with sad swollen eyes. He can see regret and anger in her eyes. Things that he can’t bear to see.

“Maya..”

Richard grabbed her wrist as soon as Maya walked passed through him.

“Mag-usap muna tayo.. please..”

He asked tenderly. Hoping she would listen to his plea and allow him to explain.

“Please..”

He heard her heavy breathing. Tears started to well up her eyes.

“Bitiwan mo ako. Kailangan ko pang asikasuhin yung gamit ko.”

She answered calmly. Slightly, shaking her hand to free herself from his hold.

“Let’s talk first, kahit sandali lang.”

“Sabi ko bitiwan mo ako…”

“Maya please, don’t make things difficult for us. Let’s talk.”

Babaero! Manloloko!”

Hearing her words. Richard was hurt. He withdrew his hand holding her wrist  and let her go.Leaving him standing at the main door as tears starting to form in his eyes as well.
