Chapter 5 – Meeting.
“I’m Maya Dela Rosa – Ventura. 28 years old. I’m the CEO of Time Airways…
And this is my story…”
December 2014. Maya’s House
Maya woke up early, kahit na puyat sya. She needed to go to TA. To meet someone and continue her life. She didn’t want to be miserable, ayaw nya din na tawagin sya ‘Tiger FA CEO’ or ‘Terror FA’. Hindi naman kasi sya ganoon, hindi nya lang mapigilan pero hindi sya ganoon dati…
“Goodmorning Manang Tess!” Maya said. Nakita nya si Manang Tess na nagaayos ng breakfast.
“Magandang umaga sayo Anak. Mukhang wala kang tulog ah?” Manang Tess asked.
“Yeah, Manang. Wala nga. Stress eh.” Maya said at pumunta na sya sa dining table.
She decided to call her secretary Eds…
Ring… Ring… Ring…
“Goodmorning Maam Maya.”
“Goodmorning Eds.” Maya said.
“How may I help you Maam?”
“Please move the meeting with Ms. Celine De Guzman. Later after lunch. May pupuntahan lang kasi ako this morning.”
“That’s all Maam?”
“And please the meeting with Daddy Jaime. Please tell him, I would like to continue the meeting today or kahit kalian basta available sya.”
“Anything else Maam?”
“That’s all Eds. Have a good day.”
“Okay Maam, have a good day too.”
“Mukhang good mood si Maam ah.” Edselyn said after the phone call.
Kasabay ni Maya, magalmusal si Manang Tess. Tahimik lamang sila but Maya broke the silence.
“Manang, nanaginip ako kagabi.” Maya said.
“Ano naman yung panaginip mo Hija?”
“James and the kids.”
Manang Tess was shocked. “A-Ano n-naman n-nangyari?”
Maya chuckled. “Manang, nautal pa. It’s okay.” Maya started telling her dream to Manang Tess.
Maya was walking by the beach. She bent down and picked up the seashells and when she looked up. She saw her husband James and their kids Janica and Marco.
“Kids! Honey!” Maya shouted. “Come here!”
“Coming Mommy!” The kids ran to Maya and they hugged her. “We miss you so much Mom.”
“I miss you too so much. You don’t know how much I’m longing for your hugs and kisses.” Maya kissed them all around their faces.
“Honey, paano naman ako?” James pouted.
Maya chuckled. “Syempre, ikaw din. Miss na miss na miss na miss kita!” Maya stood up and hugged James.
“I love you so much James. I miss you. Please come back.” Maya cried while hugging James.
James said. “C’mon Kids, let’s hug Mommy.” They all hugged Maya.
“I miss you Guys, please come back.” Maya said.
“Honey, I want you to have a life. Please return to your oldself. I want to see the old Maya, the Maya I met, the cheerful Maya and a very caring and loving wife and a mother. We may not be there for you but we are always with you.” James pointed the heart of Maya. “Diba? We love you so much Maya. We really do. And We really miss you.”
“But Honey, Magiging masaya ako pag kasama kayo.” Maya said while crying.
“Maya, you can fine your happiness even without us. We will always be in your heart. Just remember that. Just go back to the old Maya. I want to see you again like that. I don’t want to see you lonely because of us.” James said.
“It’s been 5 years Maya. It’s time to let us go.” James hugged Maya and kissed her head. “I want to see you happy again Maya. I really do. I love you.”
“Mommy…” Marco tucked her dress.
“Yes, my prince?” Maya turned her back and hugged Marco.
“I want to give you this.” Maya looked at Marco and he was holding a paper plane.
“Aww, thank you so much My Prince.” There was a message in the paper plane. “I want you to be happy again Mommy.”
“Mommy, paper roses for you.” Janica said.
“My Princess! I miss you so much.” Maya cried and hugged her daughter.
“Mommy, please promise me you’ll be happy again. I want to see you smiling again.” Janica said and she looked at face of her Mom.
They all hugged Maya and they bid their goodbyes.
“Bye Mommy! We miss you so much. I love you.” Marco said and kissed Maya’s cheeks.
“Me too Mommy! Just remember we will always be in your heart and you will always be in our hearts.” Janica said and kissed her mother.
“Honey… I miss you. I love you so much. You know that right? You will always be in my heart and to our kids’ hearts. Just be happy again.” James hugged Maya so tight.
“Please don’t go Honey.” Maya said.
“It’s time to let us go…” James said.
And Maya woke up. She thought she’ll visit their graves later after breakfast so she went down and she saw Manang Tess preparing the breakfast…
-end of dream flashback-
Maya cried while telling her dream to Manang Tess.
“I really miss them Manang but I think I really need to move on now. I should visit them at cementery later.” Maya said while smiling.
“Sa wakas Anak, nakita kitang ngumiti.” Manang Tess said.
Maya was about to answer but her phone rang, it was Eds.
“Goodmorning Maam Maya. Mr. Jaime Ventura Sr. said, he is available by afternoon mga 5pm daw po. Are you free?”
“Yes, I’m free. How about Ms. De Guzman? Is she coming?”
“Yes Maam, she’s coming daw po. After lunch.”
“Alright Eds. Thank you.”
Maya went to the cementery, she said a little prayer before talking to them. She lit up a candle and gave them flowers.
“You know Guys, I miss you so much.” Maya said. “I dreamt of you Guys last night. Maybe sign na yun para i-let go ko kayo…” Maya chuckled. “How terrible I am these past few years….”
“I’m letting you go, I’m moving on. Rest in peace now Guys. You will always be in my heart.”
“Bye Guys, I miss you and I love you all.”
Maya went to her favourite coffee shop. She sat down beside the window. Someone approached her.
“Maya?” A chinky-eyed man standing beside Maya’s table.
“Mr. Singkit!” Maya was surprised to see him there.
“Mr. Singkit? Richard will do.” Richard said. “Alone? May I sit here?”
“Yes, you may.”
“Penny for your thoughts?” Richard said.
“Nothing, stressed lang sa trabaho.” Maya said. “Kamusta ka na pala? You have hangover kaya ka nandito?”
“Actually, yes and may meeting ako later this afternoon.” Richard said.
“Oh, I see. I also have a meeting later.” Maya said and she smiled.
“The smile. She’s beautiful.” Richard thought.
“Alam mo bagay sayo kung lagi kang naka’smile.” Richard said.
Maya gave him the ‘are-you-kidding -look’. “I’m not joking Maya.”
Maya smiled widely. “Like this?”
Richard chuckled. “Yeah, like that. Always smile like that.”
“Nakakatuwa tong singkit na to.” Maya thought.
Laging pinapatawa ni Richard si Maya, nagsasabi sya ng jokes at si Maya ay tawang tawa sa mga jokes nya hanggang sa maluha luha na sya. Hindi na nya namalayan ang oras.
She looked at her wristwatch and stood up. “Oh my! I’m late.”
“Why Maya?” Richard said.
“I have a meeting. 1pm. And it’s already 1.30pm.” Maya said. “Ikaw kasi, patawa ka ng patawa hindi ko tuloy namalayan ang oras. Mauna na ako ah! Bye.”
“Do you have your car?” Richard asked. “Gusto mo hatid na kita?”
“Wag na Richard, okay lang. I have my car with me. I really need to go. Bye!”
“Bye Maya! See you around.”
Maya was half-walking and half-running when she entered the Time Airways. She was late! So damn late!
“Mygoodness. Ayoko pa naman ng late tas ako late.” Maya said while walking.
She entered their office and saw Edselyn.
“Goodafternoon Ma’am Maya. Ms. Celing De Guzman is now in the waiting area.”
“Goodmorning Eds. I’m so sorry. I’m late. Di ko namalayan ang oras. How long did she wait?”
“Kanina pa po sya dito mga before 1pm.”
“Okay okay, just tell her. 5 more minutes. I jest need to calm down my heartbeat. I was running a while ago and please get me a bottled water.”
“Sure Maam. I’ll tell her.” Eds said. “Here’s your bottled water Maam.”
“Thank you Eds.”
After 5 minutes…
Maya’s door opened and she saw Ms. Celine De Guzman standing beside the door.
“Please have a sit Ms. De Guzman.”
“Goodafternoon Ma’am Maya.”
“Goodafternoon Ms. De Guzman.” Maya said. “Okay lang ba kung Celine ang itawag ko sayo?”
“Yes Maam, it’s alright.”
“Okay Celine. First, I would like to say sorry because of what happened yesterday. I was in a bad mood and I heard y-”
“Sorry po Maam Maya, hindi ko naman po sinasadya.”
“It’s alright Celine. The reason why I called you because I want to return your job. Tomorrow, start working again as the FA of Time Airways and please wag mo ng ulitin ang ginawa mo, kahit kanino.” Maya said while smiling. “Understand?”
“Yes Maam! Thank you po talaga!” Celine stood up and hugged Maya. “Sorry Maam Maya, natuwa lang po ako.”
“It’s alright. How old are you?” Maya asked.
“28 years old Maam.”
“We have the same age.” Maya said. “We can be friends.”
“Maam?” Celine asked.
“Gusto ko sana humingi sayo ng favor eh.”
“Ano po yun Maam?”
“Gusto ko sana maging close sa mga FA ng Time Airways, gusto ko sana mabura na yung ako yung ‘Tiger FA CEO’ or ‘Terror FA’”
“Sure Maam! We can be friends and I’ll help you with that!”
“Really? Thanks Celine and you can call me Maya pag tayo lang dalawa pero pag nasa trabaho Ma’am Maya pa din.”
“You know Ma’am, I have a gay friend. We’re close. You can ask him an advice.”
“What’s his name?”
“Emman. Emman De Lara.”
“Emman?! Si Emman?! Bestfriend ko yun eh! The photographer!”
“Yes! Emman the photographer. Really Maam? Roomies kami nun eh!”
“Mukhang magkakasundo pala tayo. I’ll set dinner with Emman later. I’ll just call you. You may go now.”
“Sure Maya, thank you again.”
Maya dialed Eds’ number in the intercom.
“Eds, please reserve a dinner for 4. Later around 7pm and tell Celine and Emman the place and time. Come with us Eds.”
“With Emman Maam?! I miss that guy!”
“Yeah, we will bond with Celine De Guzman.”
Eds and Emman were her former co-FAs. They were buddies until now. Emman resigned at Time Airways and pursued his dream to be a famous photographer. Eds resigned also. She wanted to be an Office Girl. Maya got promoted as the CEO of Time Airways. No one would take over the Time Airways, her father-in-law Mr. Jaime Ventura Sr. trusted her and he let her handle the business and she made it.
Her father-in-law Mr. Jaime is proud of her achievements. At a young age, she managed to handle Time Airways properly.
She was checking the financial reports when her phone rand. It was her father-in-law. ‘Daddy Jaime Ventura’ it was flashed on the screen of her cellphone. She answered it…
“Goodafternoon Hija Maya. How are you my daughter?” Mr. Jaime would always call her like that. He treated her like his own daughter after his son died.
“Daddy! I miss you! I’m so sorry if I let my secretary call you. I’m so busy these past few days and I’m not feeling well.” Maya said.
“Are you alright now Hija?”
“Yes, Daddy. I’m alright.”
“Don’t forget our meeting later around 4pm.”
“Oo naman Daddy, hindi ko makakalimutan yun. Ikaw pa!”
“May ipapakilala ako sayo mamaya Hija.” Mr. Ventura was grinning.
“Daddy? Sino naman yun?”
“You’ll know later.”
“Okay Daddy, I trust you.” Maya said.
“Maya, how are you? For real?” Mr. Ventura’s voice was serious now and Maya knew that she would tell him the truth.
“I’m fine Daddy, I dreamt of them last night and they’re telling me to let them go and they want me to be happy again anf I visited them at the cementery a while ago that’s the reason why I wasn’t be able to call you.”
“That’s a good sign Hija. Maybe my son and my grandchildren wanted to see you happy again. Please include me, I want you to be happy again Maya. Go back to the old Maya.” Mr. Ventura said and Maya chuckled at the other line.
“Why? Anong nakakatawa Hija?” Mr. Ventura said.
“Tatay nga po talaga kayo ni James, that’s the words he said to me in my dreams.”
“Well, he’s my son. But kidding aside Maya Hija, I want you to be happy again.”
“I will try Daddy. Thank you Daddy. I love you Dad.”
“I love you too My Daughter. See you later.”
“See you later Daddy.”
Maya returned to her paper works and by 3pm she was all done and she was preparing for the meeting with her father-in-law and with someone. They were going to have their meeting at a restaurant and have an early dinner.
She went to the restaurant and she arrived their by quarter to 4 and she saw her father-in-law.
“Sabi ko na ba Dad, maaga ka. Lagi naman.” Maya said as she sat down infront of her Daddy Jaime.
“Kilala mo naman ako Maya.” Mr. Jaime said. “So, you’re early also.”
“Alam mo naman na ayokong nal’late Daddy.” Maya said. “Sino ba yung ipapakilala mo? Is it business related?”
Daddy Jaime chuckled. “Oo naman, business related.”
“Oh, I see. Btw Daddy, how’s the Time Airways in London?”
“Okay lang, stable naman. Maganda ang takbo.”
“How’s Mama Marsha?” Maya said with a worried look on her face.
“You don’t need to worry about Marsha. She’s alright. She’s moving on.”
“I know Daddy, I will call her later or visit her this weekend.”
“Alright. She will be glad and she misses you very much.”
“Please don’t tell her. It’s a surprise!”
“Sure Hija. How’s you lovelife?”
“Daddy! Wala ako nyan.”
Mr. Jaime chuckled. “You need to have a life Maya.”
“I have a life Dad. With you, Mama, Manang Tess and friends.”
“Pero iba pa din ang may magaalaga sayo hanggang sa pagtanda.”
“I’m too young Dad. 28 pa lang ako.”
“Kaya nga, dapat naghahanap ka na ngayon.”
“Daddy, you kn-” Maya stopped because Daddy Jaime talked also.
“There you are!” Mr. Jaime stood up and approached a man. Maya’s back was facing them.
“Maya.” Mr. Jaime Ventura said.
“Yes Daddy?” She turned her back and she saw the man…
“Richard!” “Maya!” They both said.
“So, I guess I don’t need to introduce you to each other.” Mr. Jaime Ventura said. He was grinning.
“Hindi ko na pala kailangan maging cupid.” Mr. Jaime thought.
