Richard: What time is our date on Thursday?

Maya:  Date? Maya looked at Richard after she placed the cups on top the breakfast nook.

Richard: Ah, eh, hindi ba date nyo ni Emman dapat yun, and I’m the substitute for Emman.  So technically, it will be our date on Thursday, right?

Maya: Of course, Sir Chief! 7:30 pm po yung show.

Richard: Okay, we’ll just finalize the plan Wednesday night.

Maya: Maya ran back to Richard and pinched his cheek.  Mmmmmmm! Kakagigil ka talaga  sa tuwa.  Thank you po uli Sir Chief! Good night po!

Richard: Good night Maya. Fascinated and tickled, Richard watched her go with a big smile on his face.

Continuation……..

The next morning, Maya woke up very early, before everybody else. She wanted to bake some chocolate chip cookies for the kids.  While waiting for the cookies to be cooked in the oven, Maya took out some items from the ref and meticulously, prepares healthy sandwiches for Luke and Nikki.  She was so involved with what she’s doing, she didn’t notice Manang Fe coming in.

Kasi, first day of school ng mga bata.  Si Nikki first day ng first year nya sa high school.  Si Luke naman, first day ng  last year nya sa high school.

Pag first day, excited po ang lahat.

Manang Fe:  Napaka buti mong bata Maya.

Pagtatagpuin at pagtatagpuin nya kayo.

Maya:  Si Sir Chief, pilyo?  Anu pong parusa nya Manang?

Manang Fe:  O sige, sige!  Bibilisan namin ang pag handa ng almusal.

After abount 30 minutes, Richard came out of his room and saw Doris coming from the other side where the rooms of Luke and Nikke are located.

Richard: Gising na ba ang mga bata?

Doris: Ay Sir Richard!

 Richard: But it’s only 5:30.

 Doris: Opo, Sir.

Luke and Nikki were still not around when Richard reached the dining table.   As he pulled his chair, he saw Maya in the Kitchen, busy doing something.

Richard: Maya?  Why are you up this early?

Maya:  Ay, good morning Sir Chief!

Richard: Maya, thank you for doing that.  You really didn’t have to. They can just buy from the school canteen. But as I’ve said, thank you, it’s very much appreciated.

At least they have something to munch on when necessary. At, sigurado pang healthy.

And, since hindi nila halos magagalaw ang allowance nila, they will realize it and will get interested in saving their allowances, sigurado pa kayo na malinis and healthy kinakain nila sa school.

Richard: Maya, that is so sweet and thoughtful of you.  Thank you.

Maya:  Welcome po.  Eh, Sir Chief, wala na pong bawian yung kagabi ha?

Richard: Richard looks at Maya sideways with narrowed eyes and a smile that teases.  Maya, are you doing this to make sure that I’ll go with you on Thursday?

I just mentioned about last night kasi baka naman pinag trip-an nyo lang ako and like Emman, bigla kayong mag-back out last minute.

Richard:  I also keep my promises, Maya.  Thursday WILL happen. Promise.

Why don’t you join me here for breakfast.

Maya:  Patapos na po.  I’m just wrapping the sandwiches.

Richard was in awe when Maya finally emerged from behind the breakfast nook and approached the dining table.  Maya smiled at Richard while she placed the resealable bags with cookies inside and the sandwiches wrapped in sandwhich paper placed inside bigger resealable bags.
Richard: Maya, why are you wearing that uniform?

Maya:  This was MY uniform when I was in my senior year.  Galing noh?

Richard:  Frowning  at Maya, Richard said  No, you’ll actually  pass as a high school student…and that’s  just  it.  You make me feel so old.

 Maya:  Pwede! Daddy Chief!

 Richard: Maya!

Maya:  Haha!  Asusssss! Maya lightly taps Richard’s chin with her left hand.

Richard:    Richard smiles at the gesture of Maya but gets defensive and instinctively cuts her off to hide his pleasure. Principal? That’s what you’re going to say, right?

Maya:  No, I was going to say high school teacher.

Richard: E ganun din yun eh.

Maya:  Hindi kaya.  Sir Chief, when I was a sophomore, nagulat kami during our first general assembly na may bagong male teacher ang mga 4th year!  May iba naman pong mga male teachers pero they’re old na.  Pero yung new teacher super young, cute pa! Hmmm, siguro mga 8-10 years older sa amin. Shempre since all girls kami, hayun, crush ng buong high school!

 Richard: And that includes you?

Maya:  Hindi naman talagang crush crush…more of kilig lang.

 Richard: So crush mo nga.

Maya:  Sir Chief hindi nga po.  Kilig lang kasi, parang  fairy tale story kasi…you know….. teacher student thing.

Richard suddenly felt unfathomably apprehensive with how their conversation was going.  He couldn’t comprehend why he suddenly felt that way, but it also made him curious. So, he went ahead, and asked a question even before he hesitated.

Richard: Why, do you think it is not possible in real life? I mean, that kind of thing – because it’s a May December affair?

Maya:  Possible!  In fact, naging topic ng mga reunion kasi, he married one of his students! Imagine?!

Richard: Why, was it not acceptable? Because the teacher was older and married one of his younger students?

Maya:  Kaya nga po topic ng reunion, nakaka kilig because it’s a fairytale story happening in real life.

Richard: Which means, IT IS acceptable, right?

Maya:  Of course naman po.  Eh di ba wala naman  pong rule na dapat mag ka-age or magka-generation and couple?  Sa batas nga, dapat lang at least both 18 years of age para ikasal.

 Richard: Point well taken, attorney.

The two were so engrossed talking, unaware that to some people watching them, they appear like they’re so into each other.

Doris: Sabel! Tignan mo sila oh, nakaka kilig!

Ayieee! Sabi ko sayo eh, love story in the making ito!

Sabel:  Korek ka! Waaaaah!

Tignan mo alaga mo oh,  naka ngiti! At kumakain pa ng almusal!

Doris: Makakasabay pa nya mga bata!

Sabel: Oo nga, speaking of mga bata, ayan na yung dalawa.

Nikki: Oh my gee! Tita Maya is that your high school uniform?!

Maya: Hi Nikki!  Oo, para picture picture tayo, pang  facebook at instagram.

Nikki: Dad?! Oh my gee Dad! You’re eating breakfast with us?

Richard: Good morning Nikki, Luke.

Nikki: Oh this is really a good morning!

Luke: With all smiles, Luke greets Richard and Maya with all gusto.  Morning Dad! Tita Maya!

Maya: Good morning!

Maya: Talaga?  Teka, may uniform na kayo sa high school?Nung time namin, civilian lang sila eh.

Luke: Opo, ito na po yun.

Maya: Parang mas okay nga pag may uniform.

Nikki: Wow! Cookies and sandwich? Awwww, that is so sweet Tita Maya.  I’m really going to eat this.

Luke: Ako rin po, Tita Maya. Thank you po.

Maya: Wow, sulit yung gawa ko.  Alam nyo, ma se-save nyo pa ang allowance nyo pag kinain nyo yan.

Richard: That’s right.

After the quick breakfast, Luke and Nikki asked to be excused to get their school bags.  Richard did the same and proceeded to his home office to get his laptop and office files.  Maya on the other hand, went outside and waited for Nikki by the main door to have their picture taken.

Richard was the first to come out of the main door and saw Maya browsing through her mobile phone.

Richard: Maya, why are you here outside?

Maya: Waiting for Nikki, picture picture po kami dba?

Richard: Oh that’s right.

Maya: Sir Chief tayo muna mag selfie! Maya went close to Richard and raised  her mobile phone to take their picture.

Richard: No, kayo na lang ni Nikki.

Maya:  I can be fun pala ha.  Selfie lang ayaw na.  Eh di corny ka nga.

Richard: Okay, fine! Just do it quick.

After the selfie shot, Richard noticed that Maya was strangely looking at him with a mischievous grin on her face.

Richard: Maya?

Maya: Sir Chief?

Maya: Sir Chief, were you a normal kid?

Richard: Richard chuckles.  What do you mean?
Maya:  Normal kid, like when you eat ice cream and it melts, did it ever get messy with you? Did you also lick your lips? Or were you always that prim and proper?  Hahaha! Naka long sleeves na 5 years old habang kumakain ng ice cream complete with table napkin tucked in the neckline of your shirt –

Richard: I was a normal kid Maya. I did lick the dripping melted ice cream.

Maya: Talaga? Pati yung mustache ice cream nyo?

Richard: Yes, Maya.

Maya: Okay.  You have to do that now.  I mean, lick your lips.

Richard: What? And why should I?

Maya: Kasi may catsup po sa may lips mo.

Richard: Hahaha! Seriously? Maya, all the long talk just to tell me that I have catsup in my lips?

At least I’m not in my 40’s and a messy eater.

Richard: Okay, fine.  Richard slides his tongue  between his lips. Okay na, wala na yung catsup?

Maya: Hahaha! Sabi ko na nga ba eh! Prim and proper ka nga nung bata pa. Ganito kasi oh.

Maya demonstrates by sticking out her tongue and leisurely moves it up from the left corner of her lips down to the corner right. Richard stared at her thinking “and  you’re  already 25 but still doesn’t know what your tongue demonstration could actually do to a man in his 40s….”

Maya:  Sir Chief kayo naman, do it this way ha… then she moves her tongue up again from the corner right down to the left side.

Richard: Stop. Just…stop, Maya.  I got it.  But I’d rather wipe it off with a hanky.  I think that would be much easier.

Richard wiped his lips but failed to get off the dried catsup lining his upper lips.  So Maya took the hanky from Richard’s hand and started wiping.

Maya:  Let me do it.  Maya held Richard’s face and gently rubbed the hanky against his upper lip while Richard looks on. Messy at 40?

Maya tried, but her effort, to remove the stain from the collar with the hanky was futile.

Maya:  Haaay!  Pano ba kasi kayo mag tooth brush?  Do you have perfume in your pocket?

Richard: Why would I put one in my pocket?

Maya:  Because girls do.  Teka po.

Maya digs in her handy mobile phone pouch hanging on her wrist which she brings all the time.   There, along with a lip gloss, short eye pencil and small pack of wipes, is her tiny perfume automizer which she took out.  Spontaneously,  Maya sprayed some of her Clinique Happy perfume at the corner part of the hanky, not minding Richard who was just watching her in wonder.

She rubbed the wet part of the hanky against the collar of Richard, who was already intoxicated by the scent, and by now was under her spell.

Maya:  Tada!  Ang galing!  Wala na. This really works. Maya fixed the collar and lets her hand glide down Richard’s chest and finally taps it lightly. Okay na Sir Chief! Sir Chief?!

Richard:  Richard recovers quickly.  Ah…thank you. A-asan na ba mga bata?  Baka ma late na sila.

Instantlaneously,  Nikki and Luke came out of the main door.

Nikki: Oh my gee Daddy, you’re here?

Maya:  Shempre  naman  Nikki, send off  kayo ng  Daddy  nyo, first day eh. Hindi ba Sir Chief?!  Maya winked at Richard, who responded by nodding his head.

Nikki, Halika na!  Bilis! Maya hands him over her mobile phone.

Luke: Sure Tita Maya!  Okay, 1-2-3!  Isa pa, 1-2-3!

Nikki: Kuya sa phone ko rin please. Here oh.

Luke: Okay 1-2-3!  Isa pa uli, 1-2-3!

Maya: O, “selfie” tayong tatlo, 1-2-3! Maya just grabbed Richard and positioned him in between Luke and Nikki.

           Smile! 1-2-3!

 Richard: Opo Sir.

The kids kissed Richard goodbye and rushed to the car.

Nikki: Bye Dad! Bye Tita Maya!

 Luke: Bye Dad, Tita!

Richard: Maya, what about you? When is the first day sa law school?

Richard:  That’s okay.

Maya: That won’t be necessary.  I’ll bring my car.  Mas okay po yun.

Richard: We’ll talk about this some other time.  I also need to go now.

Maya: Okay!  Bye Sir Chief!

Maya went back inside the mansion and was about to go to her room to change clothes when Abby, who was coming down the stairs, chanced upon her.  Abby ran to her and tugged on the uniform Maya was wearing.

Abby got upset and cried after learning that her siblings have gone to school while she was still sleeping.  She told Maya that she’d love to wear a school uniform and asked why she couldn’t go to school just like her Ate Nikki.

Maya: Abby, sa school, students are required to talk.  Eh di ba ikaw, ayaw mo mag talk?

Maya could not make Abby stop from crying, and it’s making her upset to see Abby so sad.

CEO’s Office – LAS, 8th Floor

Maya  stayed behind the entrance of the office, and silently peeked to check if Liza is at her table.  Lucky for Maya, she is. In a very soft voice, Maya calls Liza.

Maya: Ms. Liza!  Ms. Liza!

Liza: Maya? Maya immediately puts her index finger to her lips to warn Liza not to make a fuss.  So, Liza stood up and went to Maya.  Abby immediately kissed her.

Oh hello Abby!  Hhmmm, let me guess, hindi ito alam ng boss ko no?

Maya: Oo eh.

Liza: Ikaw talaga Maya!  Busy or not, pag si Abby naman yan, priority ni Sir. Halika nga dun sa loob.

Maya sat on the visitor’s chair across Liza’s table and placed Abby on her lap.

Ramos.  Hindi naman  siya tiger mode.  Parang nakita ko nga kanina nakangiti eh. Teka, dumating yan kanina in a very good mood, pasipol sipol pa.

Bihirang bihira daw mangyari yun eh.  Sobrang gulat pero saya ni Nikki and Luke kanina.

Liza: Ah, ganun ba. Sana hindi mag bago ang mood.  Sobrang  busy kasi ng schedule nya today.  Halos walang break. Dami kausap na tao. Kakastress!

Liza looked at the direction of the sofa at the waiting area just outside and pointed to the woman in black skimpy clothes and high heels.

Nakaka lokang kausap.

But don’t worry for sure, Sir will find time, masisingit kayo ni Abby.

Sana lang wag mag tiger mode kasi wala akong laban eh, hindi ako nag paalam, I used my car and drove here dalawa lang kami ni Abby.

Liza: Bakit?

The woman waiting outside noticed Liza entertaining  Maya and was getting pissed watching them with their pleasantries.  She stood up and approached Maya.

Steph: Excuse me.  Connect me if I’m wrong,  but uhm, are you here to see Richard too?

Maya: Huh?

Maya looked at Liza who just winked at her, giving her the cue to go with the flow.

Maya: Actually,  yes.  I’m here to see Richard.

Steph: Really?  Same here!  Actually, kanina yun.  Hindi na ngayon.

Its like this kasi, I was walking alone the corner of the street where this building stands, then it suddenly don’t on me that I only get to see Richard ones in a full moon, so I decided to dropped off and visit him.    But  that  was hours ago!  And lucky me I saw Engr. Yamaguchi  and  he’s taking me out for a lunch out!  Hinahantay ko lang sha.

Maya: Oh, is that so.

Steph: Yes. So,  I hope you don’t mine me asking.  Do you have an appointment?  Kasi if none, good luck! Richard is so busy with business and staff,  you’ll  just waste your time waiting.  It doesn’t worth it, you know.

Liza: Stephanie, she happens to be a very important woman, so with or without an appointment, priority sha ni Sir.

Steph: Oh my gas!  Really? So, Richard is on you?  Ikaw?  Eh you are so choppy!

Maya: Choppy?

Steph:  Yes!  Parang ang dami mong laman.  Look at those cheeks! Look at that face, bilog na bilog, parang buwan!

Maya didn’t mind the grammar of the woman, in fact the “inglesera sa kanto”  type of English even amused and entertained her.   It’s the attitude of the woman that was annoying.   Unknown to Liza and Stephanie, Maya was just grinning to mask her disgust, but she actually wanted to say Ang lakas ng loob ng babaeng ito mamintas, para namang napaka ganda nya.

Steph:  Excuse me?

Maya: Excuse me your face! Crescent moon, yung  ka shape  ng banana!

Steph:  Look Liza! The nerd of that woman!

Maya:  Oh I’m really a nerd.  In fact nagbabasa ako ng dictionary when I’m bored.

Steph:  I don‘t give a dumb about dictionary!

Liza:  Malamang!

Liza and Maya burst into laughter.

Steph:  Stop making fond of me! How dare you two gun up on me! And you better shock your mouth  Liza otherwise  –

Liza:  Otherwise what?  Isusumbong mo ako kay Sir? And why would he listen to you?

Steph:  For your FYI, I happened to be a very important guest relations officer of LAS!  Isa akong hulog ng langit! So you should retreat me properly!

Liza:  Ikaw kaya isumbong ko, on how you insulted Maya.

Steph: Maya? Is that your name?  As in Maya the bird? Pinaglihi ka ng mama mo sa ibon?

Maya: And so?  Malamang nga kaya siguro kasi marunong ako kumanta, parang ibon! Ikaw for sure sa mangga  pinaglihi.

Steph: How dare you spoke to me like that, you beach!  And…and…why  does Richard even like you?  With that choppy body and face?

Well, why would a man like a woman with a sexy body if her attitude is ugly and her brain is empty?  Hindi bale ng chubby  pero nice naman and brainy…men find that sexy.

Liza: Korek!

Steph: Give me alone Liza!

Liza: Heller?!

You know what?  You better leave us alone now.  Kasi pag inabutan ka ni Sir and he learns how you treated Maya, it will infuriate him and for sure, hinding hindi ka na tatawagan ng LAS for a job!

Steph: Okay,find!  I’m leaving!

Liza/Maya: Bye!

Liza: Told you nakaka loka kausap.

Maya: Seriously?  GRO nyo sha?  I really don’t mine yung grammar nya. Sino ba yun?

Liza: Si Stephanie, siya tinatawagan para mag entertain ng mga bisita from Japan, mga suppliers or clients.  Ewan ko ba san napulot ni Atty. Molina yan.

Maya: Atty. Ryan Molina? I’m sure the Japanese would’t mine her English.  Hahaha!

Liza: Hahaha! Ang pilya  mo rin talaga eh no? Nakahanap siya  ng naka supalpal sa kanya.

Maya: Pano, she was making fond of me! Ipamukha bang choppy ako!  My gas!

Liza: Hahaha! Ryan pag yan kausap eh.

Maya: Madalas dito si Atty. Ryan?

Liza: Basta pag may legal matters, nandito yan.

Literally and figuratively. Promise!

Maya: Hahaha!  Liza pilya ka rin ha.

Liza: You’ll see in a while.

Liza calls Richard from the intercom.

Richard: Yes Liza?

Liza: Your 11:00 o’clock  appointment is already here, Sir.

Richard: Richard looked at the lady lawyer in front of her and  repeats what Liza said.  My 11:00 o’clock  appointment is already there? Eh bakit ngayon ka lang nagsabi? Past 11 na ah.

Liza: Sorry Sir.

Richard: What?  Okay, I’ll wrap this up.  Richard didn’t  bother ask who is waiting for him.  He was just glad that his conversation with Atty. Ramos will finally be over. He stood up and approached her.

           I’m sorry Ghie I still have –

Atty. Ghie: Atty. Ghie Ramos stood up  It’s okay Richard, I heard you.  Is your schedule really this tight?   Richard held her by the elbow and guided her out.

Richard: Yes.  Nagrereklamo na nga si Ryan eh.

Atty. Ghie:  Are you sure you don’t want to join me for lunch?

Richard: Sorry, but I still have a meeting after this…which  I can’t cancel anymore, right Liza.

Liza: Oh yes, Sir.

Atty. Ghie: Oh well, I guess there’s always next time.  See you then Richard.

Atty. Ghie’s tall stature matched Richard’s which made it so easy for Ghie  to wrap her hand around Richard’s neck. She leaned and planted a lingering kiss on his right cheek, intentionally near his ear.  The kiss was so lasting, one would think she’s initiating an intimate act.  Richard did not move and just looked at Liza with his raised eyebrows, asking for rescue.

Liza:  Liza rolled her eyes.  Uhm…Sir, your 11:00 o’clock is here.

Richard followed the gaze of Liza and was surprised so see Maya who has a meaningful smile plastered on her face and with a sleeping Abby on her shoulder.  Richard suddenly felt uneasy, he was able to gently pull away from Atty. Ramos.

Richard: Uhm…Thank you again Ghie.  I’ll just call you or Ryan.  Uhm..Liza, can you show Atty. Ramos out.

Atty. Ghie: It’s okay Richard, I know my way out.  Bye!

Immediatley, Richard went to Maya  and  took  Abby  from  her.

Richard: Hi!  What are you doing here?

The the soft tone in the voice, the refreshed mood, the wide smile, and the excitement on the face of Richard upon seeing Maya did not escape Liza.

Liza: With a naughty smile on her face, Liza answered  her boss.

Richard: Maya, how did you get here?  Wait, Stephanie was here?

Napagod ako makipag argue kay Stephanie kanina eh, kaya pwede po time out muna.   Let me explain first.

Richard: Okay, dito tayo sa office so Abby can lie down.  Liza, I don’t want to deal with Stephanie.  Just deal with her please.  And thank you kanina kahit ang tagal mo.

Liza: Don’t worry Sir. Napalayas na namin ni Maya kanina. You should have seen her deal with Stephanie!  Hilarious!

Inside Richard’s massive office located at one of the corners of the 8th floor, he laid Abby on the sofa located near the full glass window overlooking the city and the blue sky.  The sala of Richard’s office sits across his huge mahogany table which dramatically stands against a wall accented with decorative stones giving that Zen feel.

As he walked to his table, he watched Maya go over the plaques and picture frames on the long console table adjacent to the bathroom door.   He thought Maya looked so elegantly lovely in her A-cut floral sleeveless dress that she paired with beige crocheted espadrille wedges.  The thick long straps of the espadrille wedges around her legs in criss-cross ending just below the shin made Maya’s long legs appear so sexier.  This sophisticated look is far from how she was seen by Richard earlier in the morning with her old high school uniform.

Richard: Maya? Come and sit here.

Instead of sitting on his office chair, Richard sat on one of the visitor’s chair in front of his office table and motioned Maya to sit on the other just across where he is.  Now facing each other, Richard initiated the conversation.

Richard: So why are you here? And how did you get here in the first place?

Maya: Sir Chief, pag ka alis po ninyong lahat kanina, nagising si Abby and she was so upset kasi wala na kayong lahat.  She was crying and crying, hindi namin mapatahan.  Sabi nya sa Ipad nya, she also wants to go to school like her Ate Nikki and she also wants to wear school uniform.

I tried to calm her down pero hindi ko talaga mapatahan.  Nakaka awa nga eh. You can feel from how she cried na sobrang sakit ng loob nya. But I ended up here kasi –

Richard: WHAT? You drove all the way here? Just the two of you?
