Truth and Lies – part 17

This is a continuation to Truth and Lies – part 16.

Chapter 17

Richard and Maya reconciliation lifted their spirits up and reaffirmed their love for each other. She apologized for her stubbornness and pride. He likewise apologized for his own selfish desire to prove that he could make her fall in love with him even if he didn’t have any financial wealth. They stayed at the mango farm for an additional hour until Maya’s eyes had no more traces that she cried earlier.

It was already dinner time when returned to the mansion. It was then they met her parent’s visitor. The happiness in Maya’s face deserted her when she was introduced to the female visitor. She felt a problem may come into offing again.

“’Nak, Richard, ito si Mrs. Gina David, kumare ko s’ya dahil inaanak namin pareho si Lino sa binyag.” It was Mama Tessie who mentioned their connection to each other.
After the brief introduction, they all went to the dining room to have dinner.

“Maya, hija, balita ko kay Vincent nagkita na raw kayo sa Manila.” The visitor commented while they were having dinner.

“Ahh, opo, Tita.” She responded shyly. She glanced at Richard who was sitting beside her. She noticed he was secretly looked at her when she responded. She felt uncomfortable. It was a matter that she had not discussed with Richard yet.

“Mabuti naman. It would be good for you to get to know each other well.” Mrs. David smiled satisfactorily. She turned to Richard with interest. “Hijo, so you said you are connected with Tiger Motors, so you mean you work there?”

“Sort of Mrs. David.” He politely responded. With her question, he already knew she was figuring him out and her relationship with Maya. The Dela Rosas’ introduced him earlier as a family friend.

“So, do you know Esmeralda Tanjuico?” She asked him with curiosity in her eyes.

“Opo. I’m her son.” He replied as he drank his water.

Mrs. David’s eyes opened wide in surprise. “Really? Then, you are the only son of Robert Lim and Esmeralda. So, how are your parents doing? Your dad must be quite busy running companies particularly TM Asia? Are you helping him?”

Maya just listened to them. She gathered that Mrs. David knew Richard’s family but the details of his family background was just dawning on her. She was surprised with his response.

“My dad is just focusing on Tiger China holdings which is the family corporation. I do handle some of the subsidiaries in the mainland. Yung pong TM Asia is not part of TCH because that is my own company.” He revealed. He turned to look at Maya who was gaping at him.

“Babe, close your mouth.” He whispered so the others didn’t hear him.

“Oh my Art and Tess, you have a young taipan here. Hmmm, mukhang mabigat ang kalaban ng anak ko ha?” Her last remark caused Mama Tess to cough as if food got stucked in her throat. She quickly drank water.

Papa Arturo responded to Mrs. David’s last comment. “Well, let’s see. Ang gusto lang namin ay maging masaya ang unija hija namin pag lumagay na siya sa tahimik.”

Richard and Maya were left in the verandah having coffee after everyone had left. Maya parents went to their bedroom early saying they wanted to rest early after entertaining their visitor the whole afternoon. After the discussion over dinner table, both of them turned quiet allowing only the elders to chat.

“Ricky, matutulog ka na ba?” She tentatively asked. She approached him as he was leaning at the balustrade.

“Not yet. I’d like to stay here for a while.” He sipped his cup of coffee while looking at her. “So… babe, why did you meet yung Vincent?” He finally asked.

Maya anticipated that question to come from him and yet she felt a bit nervous giving her response. “Hmm, wala lang. Pwedeng sabihing I was curious so when he called me up, I agreed to have a dinner with him.”

He turned around to face the garden. “So, the first time was out of curiosity but how about the second time?” This time his eyes was focused aimlessly in the dark skies. There were no moon or stars that night.

“Well, okay naman kasi siya. The second one was actually another friendly dinner besides he’s the son of Mama’s friend.” She explained as she inched a little closer to him.

“Yeah, he is the son of your mother’s friend and your potential fiancée, in case you’ve forgotten.” He countered as his eyes turned to tiny slits when he looked at her again.

“Ayy, nagseselos yata si Ricky.” She placed her arms around him. “Are you jealous? I love you?” She put on childlike expression on her face.

He looked into her eyes finding the sincerity there. Eventually, a smile emerged from his lips. He rolled his eyes before putting his arms around her too. “Ehhh, bakit kasi ganoon? Hindi pa nga naayos yung problema natin… naki pag date ka na sa iba?” He sounded hurt.

The way he asked her the questions confirmed that he was really jealous. Maya cupped his face with her two hands and gave him a noisy smack on the lips.

“Ooops, wag na mag jelly, pwede? I’m sorry na.” She placed an emphasis on her apology and hugged him tighter. He also hugged her.

“Please…okay na tayo? We just got back together, Ricky. Ayoko na nang away. Sorry na talaga ang girlfriend mo.” She wooed him.

In the end, Richard heaved a sigh of defeat. “Alright, I hope it doesn’t happen again. Otherwise…” He stopped to think of what to say next.

“Otherwise, ano?” She smiled. Sh teased him as she still had his face in between her hands.

“Hmmm, this.” Richard lowered his head and claimed her mouth. His hands also held her head in place so she wouldn’t be able to avoid his kiss.

It started as a sweet, tender kiss that turned passionate. Since they almost broke up two weeks ago, he had missed her terribly including her lips and her kisses. Their kisses expressed how much they have longed for each other.

“Babe… I love you.” He uttered in between the kisses. “I missed you.” His hands roamed around her body starting from her small of her back to her sides.

Maya’s hands also started to get busy. She explored his back appreciating his well toned muscles.

“Maya… we need to stop.” He said huskily as he broke off their kiss. She didn’t hear him because when he slightly moved away from her, she encircled her arms around his nape and pulled him back again.

“Ricky…I love you.” She said. It felt she was drunk with his kisses that she didn’t want it to stop. She wanted more and she wanted him to know it.

“Babe, in asmuch as I love what’s happening now. I think this isn’t the appropriate time and place to do this. We are in the verandah and I don’t know who can see us here. Besides, this is your parents house.” He explained as he put a distance between them. His hands were already on her arms.

She blushed at the realization of what he just said. She felt embarrassed for her wanton behavior moments earlier.

He saw her face change color which caused him to chuckle. He hugged her again and said, “Okay, ‘don’t feel embarrassed. I feel the same. So now, I have something to look forward to next time…don’t lose that wild eagerness, babe.”

His comment added more embarrassemt to her so she pinched his side. “Ricky…kaiinis ka.” She pretended to glare at him.

“Hmmm, kaka inis ha? Kanina kanina lang ayaw mo bumitaw sa’kin.” He teased her some more.

“Richard!!” She finally exclaimed as she hit him in the chest.

He pulled her again in his arms. With tenderness in his voice, he declared. “Love you too, Maya. I’ve loved you from the moment I set my eyes on you. Do you remember the song that was playing when we first met?”

“Which one?” She asked curiously as she looked up to him.

“Ahh, you forgot! Then, let me refresh your memory.” He started to hum. “This will be our song.” He sang while he led her to slow dance at the verandah. His forehead was on her forehead while they moved.

“Ricky, ang galing mo kumanta.”She commented as she rested her head on his shoulder. “You are also a successful businessman, so ano pa ang talent mo?” She asked. She was breathing on his neck. His own breathing changed.

“I’m into arts…but I don’t want to talk about that now, Maya.” He continued the song and swayed with her.

He started kissing her again from her hair, to her forehead, her cheek, nose before finally claiming her lips. They were in each other’s arms singing to a song that was closest to their hearts.
